Update: Newly diagnosed - now as type 1

Thank you, So far I'm only on basal insulin, so not much variation. I had tried to add more carbs for more effect on muscle recovery and exercise energy, but after reading an old thread (Ian's thread about proving the doctor wrong) I think low carb is better with only a tiny amount to make sure...

Update: Newly diagnosed - now as type 1

Well 2020 certainly doesn't like things straightforwars eh? Diagnosed in mid february as type 2 out of the blue, with HbA1c at 11.8%, 1 week later diagnosed as type 1.5 maybe, as c peptide level was 0.8 out of a range of 1.1-1.4 and HbA1c had climbed to 12.1%. Put on 10 units of lantus a day but...

Diagnosed today, feeling a little lost and uninformed

*hugs* you got this, I was also only recently diagnosed and still learning. I really found though, the more I learned and understood, the better I felt and I had something I was able to DO and manage rather than being stuck in that shock situation after diagnosis. One step at a time. you got...

    Tired 24h after sugar bounce?

Hi everyone, Is there something like a hypo hangover ? I'm newly on insulin, type 1/1.5 Yesterday I didn't notice but when I checked before leaving the house I had fallen to 3.7. I ate some food amd had some fruit juice but overdid it as I bounced to 9.8 before leveling to 8.1 about 1.5h later...

Hi everyone, I hope this is allowed, I tried to search but didn't find a combined post in regards to blogs etc. So the past...3? weeks have been pretty life changing, and thank you so much again to everyone who helped me so much at the beginning. The worst part was just being so alone in a...

Injury not healing due to diabetes?

Did you actually feel your healing speed up again after your sugars dropped? I have way better levels now but cuts and bruises still take a very long time to heal. Small bruises that would barely last 3 days now take well over a week or 2 to fade. And cuts also take ages still.

Can you feel if your blood sugar high or low?

Oh I hadn't considered that. So it may have dropped a lot faster or lower without a meal, but the meal i ate simply didnt help to keep it level or raise it. I guess this would be good to see on a cgm, I would have seen a big drop there rather than guesswork. I will keep this in mind though for...

Can you feel if your blood sugar high or low?

I found so far my blood sugar goes up at least a little bit with each meal and if I eat big portions, even more so. I didn't realise eating can lower blood sugar too. Still new to everything, it's barely been 3 weeks, so lots to learn.

Can you feel if your blood sugar high or low?

I am actually so glad I am slightly obsessed with checking my blood sugar. Yesterday evening I was at 7.9 before dinner. I had a big meal of fried vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, mushrooms, pumpkin amd a bit of ricotta cheese) and actually had 2 helpings so I thought my bg would be really high -...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Heya, new to this thread, I heard here I get to chat about cats ^.^ Since I started insulin and have to get up at 7.40 every morning (even the weekend) my two are thrilled as I usually feed them first before I check my blg and then get my insulin. I'm on a very low dose of 5units of lantus...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

First time posting here, my number today at 8am was 7.1 I woke up during the night (3am) and it was 6.3, so I believe this may be this Dawn phenomenon. I'm usually a bit lower but this week I don't get to exercise as much and especially yesterday I barely did 1000 steps, so that could also have...

    Feeling lost and scared

Heya, I'm also newly diagnosed, early 30s and was fit and active before. I can totally sympathize with the language barrier, I am not in the UK right now and had to get my diagnosis in very basic terms and without a lot of explanation. When I was told I needed insulin there was no care team to...

New diagnosis 1.5, scared of injections

@EllieM thank you for your reply, what do you do at the gym then in regards to food? Do you carry carbs in case you are low but want to continue working out? or do you eat more beforehand? Do you have any recommendations for food that can quickly give a bit of a boost to exercise but doesn't...

    1 week in

Hi, I'm newly diagnosed too, and just started on insulin. I'm having to check after each exercise class if I'm low and often had to eat a banana and some nuts between classes to make sure I am ok for the next class. I'm also still learning about what foods give enough energy but don't spike too...

    First hypo and exercise food

No it's from a legend, His Royal Highness in the picture is called Lunas, he prefers to look about than stay warm on a trip for a quick checkup, quite posh and curious :D

    First hypo and exercise food

Thank you, I think the dose was definitely too high as I'm having to eat between exercises and I woke up with a level of 87 today. I was only slightly under the threshold of C peptite, so really hoping I can last a long time on basal only and watching carbs. I'll see how today goes :)
