'dont' inject in a public toilet !

I no longer inject in loos and certainly wouldn't change my infusion set there. My plan if I ever need a set change 'out and about' is to ask for a first aid room or manager's office. A first aid room should have alcohol wipes, or a sterile dressing to put things on. Touching a desk is best...

    Loose silhouette adhesive

Hi all This morning I accidentally ripped out my silhouette set, just by lifting my tshirt  I say ripped, but when I'd put a new one in I reflected that it can't have been stuck very well to come away that easily. I'm not convinced I grabbed the tubing, think it just got lifted with...

    Silhouette sets - question

Hi Riri I use silhouettes but haven't had that much cannula showing. Obviously with the silhouette you see more cannula than with the quickset, but usually only 1-2mm. The only way to be sure if you weren't pumping saline would be to keep a close eye on your sugars and change the set if it...

Can some one help please ?xx

Most infusion sets connect/disconnect at the cannula, but some have the connector about 10cm from the cannula, along with a second adhesive patch. The idea being if the tubing gets pulled it disconnects at the 10cm point instead of pulling the cannula out. Saw these in my Paradigm Veo...

How many blood strips do you get a month

I get 200 per month (type 1) and usually no problem when I've asked for an increase, or an extra supply if I've used more due to illness, starting on the pump, etc. However, I find whenever I change my meter, they only give me one box of 50 at first. That must be the default, they haven't the...

Help with new medtronic veo pump - alarm!

Suspending stops all insulin delivery, basal and any bolus in progress. You then press ACT to 'Resume' and it resumes basal delivery only. Any bolus programmed but not delivered before the suspend gets cancelled. The status screen shows how much bolus was actually delivered by the pump. No...

Clinic Structure Change - I'm Overreacting!

Hi Cheryl Can't advise on your rates/basal profile, being fairly new to pumping myself. Regarding the new clinic structure, surely they can't insist you participate in group sessions, because your medical issues are confidential between yourself and health professionals directly involved in...

BG levels and facet joint injections

After a steroid injection in my hand last year, my levels were in the low 20s later that day and in the teens for about a week. They said this was only a small dose. I had an accident on the way home, didn't know how much of the increase was from steroid and how much from pain and stress of...

    Dry mouth advice

dmcd11, the good news is once your sugars come under control, the thirst etc should settle. Some people think once you're diabetic, you're thirsty, tired and running to the loo for ever - not true. Thirst/tiredness/frequent urination are really symptoms of undiagnosed or suboptimally...

    How do you do yours?

When comparing different things we've been told, remember that pumps and infusion sets vary. What works with one may not help, or even be possible, with another. For example, I googled for insulin pump/bubbles and what one Youtube video recommended would be impossible for me to do with my...

    Anyone had these symptoms?

Haven't heard No 3 so far but definitely the rest. Usually they say I "don't look like a diabetic", especially one who's "so bad" that I need insulin. Great comments, thanks for the laughs.

    Using holidays for appointments

Type I is covered by DDA (or whatever the new Act is called) but as Jopar says, it comes down to manager's discretion. I've had to take holiday or make up all the time for recent weekly pump progress appointments, even though we're usually 'allowed' up to an hour for medical appointments.

    Insulin productivity

Unfortunately it can be just as irritating after 30+ years

    Alternative uses for things

Hope everyone's having a good weekend. In my family, using things for their intended purpose is looked down on. Wearing my pump in a money belt or dressing it in a baby sock or scratch mitt goes down well. I hate waste too and insulin pumps seem to generate a lot of waste. Most of us...

    How do you do yours?

I start by removing clothes, so I don't need extra hands to keep clothing out of the way. First I put the new set in, while still connected to the old one. That way if a site bleeds or I'm indecisive about where to put it, the delay doesn't affect the time I'm disconnected. (This was...

    Thirsty but not high

No pattern that I've noticed. Especially annoying as being fairly new to pumping I get concerned there's a pump/tubing problem - and a risk I'll ignore the thirst one day when there really is a problem. Wastes blood & test strips too.

    Contour Link test machine

If your DSN is reluctant to give the meters out, she probably has a cupboard full of them. So ask for a spare. If no luck then ask Bayer for another one. I know they promise to send one asap if yours goes wrong, but if they go out of stock, postal strike, long Easter/Christmas weekend etc...

    Thirsty but not high

I've noticed the same with Humalog. Previously injected Humalog for several years, only noticed the thirst without high BG since I started pumping.
