    Butternut squash

My daughter has just introduced me to her roast butternut squash soup. Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced my carb counter book, (probably left in my hotel room on hols, so would someone help me and tell me if squash is high/ low carb? The soup is lovely. Consists of squash, onion, garlic and...

Hi guys, am back from my hols with great news.Bought a new meter and it worked fine. Also found a way to keep my numbers real low. Got Dheli Belly and the food seems to have gone through so fast it missed being counted. Could even eat bread, and did since it was one of the few foods not...

Hi to you all. I am off on my travels again, this time to India. Once again wondering what on earth I am going to eat, though I have been before and the fish was great. The main thing I need to know is what to do about testing. I have a accu chek aviva, but it seems to have a problem with hot...

Thanks Cugila, it was an OGTT. I think that the reason the doc didn't suggest losing weight was that I am 5".4 and have already dropped from 9st 10 to 8st 3. Bit more than the suggested 7% :D The spikes worry me, but they don't seem to make any sense as I can eat the same thing two day's...

I have been diagnosed as pre diabetic too, so I am guessing that romanyrose is refering to thhe lack of test strips. I was told that I had diabetes origionally, then when I had the glucose tolerance test, and passed with a score of 10.1 I was told I didn't need to test and would not be given any...

    what snacks do you eat?

My preference is for a lump of cheese and an apple, with a digestive if feeling really naughty. Never have liked milky ways so that is one thing I have never snacked on.

What would you like to see in 2010???

Another vote for a T2 section. It has a lot in common with T1s, but also quite a few differences. Especially for those on diet only.

    Spikes

I want to know how to keep spikes under 7. I am pre diabetic, glucose test said so, but one slice of bread can send me as high as 9. Ok I do go back down to <6 after two hours but if the highs are doing damage may have to drop the odd slice of wholemeal. :( Just glad spuds don't have the same...

Just diagnosed with T2 and scared

Oh boy I like that one about a new hobby. Sort of puts it all into perspective. The trick is not to let it take over your life. You are in charge, not the diabetes. On the plus side it makes you become quite inventive on the reciepe front. I have found soooo many ways to adapt reciepes...

    Aunt bessie pie

My brother in Oz sent me this reciepe so I thought I would share it with you. Layer up some streaky bacon, pickled red cabbage and cheddar cheese. Bake on a slow heat untill the cheese has melted and starts to brown. Allow to cool. Eat as a nibble with red wine. Sounds horrid, but tastes like...

    suggestions for Breakfast

Have just found a new favourite for breakfast, though it does sound a bit weird. I can't tolerate oats very well, so now instead of porridge I have yougurt or creme fresh with ground almonds and either strawberries or blueberry's and a little sweetner. Result :!: Sugar levels hit the dizzy...
