    Newly diagnosed

I was told the exact same thing. My diabetic nurse said testing wasn't necessary. A blood test (hba1c) would confirm if I needed more medication. I was prescribed metformin but declined. I joined this forum and it became immediately clear just how beneficial testing was. We are all individual...

    Cookery books

This is a cookery book I've recently added to my collection and it really is excellent, not just for diabetes but for healthy eating in general. Lots of great recipes and info. Very colourful too which I love. I've added the link to Amazon for further info - you can buy cheaper elsewhere. I...

    Cookery books

My favourite book to date is The Diabetes and weightloss cookbook. You can get a copy for about £5 on ebay - great recipes in this book too, lots of colourful visuals and info that is clear and easy to understand. Mod edit to remove content irrelevant, which derailed thread.

    Update - 3 month hba1c - forum support

Fantastic result on the hba1c, eyesight and weightloss. You've ditched the meds as not making you feel so good but you are doing well dealing with your blood sugars by diet. If you don't put the sugar in basically you won't need meds to deal with it. You're also doing weights and treadmill...

Hot chocolate alternative when type 2

I don't drink hot chocolate but had a quick Google. This recipe stands out head and shoulders above the rest - made with almond milk - nice for the winter months and might just give it a whirl myself. https://www.sweetashoney.co/low-carb-hot-chocolate-sugar-free-keto/

    When will #s improve?

Hi Jennie and welcome What a shock for you. But you will get lots of encouragement on this forum. The answer to your question 'if I keep following the low carb diet will I see improvement' is yes. Carbs turn to sugar so lowering carb intake will have an impact on your readings in a good way...

    Hi everyone

Hi and welcome I really appreciate your concerns over your cholesterol level. I had the same when i was diagnosed T2. I will share some information which I hope will help you. Before my diagnosis I ate a lot of carbs and low fat products as I thought fat was bad for me and didnt realise how...

Newly Diagnosed - trying to process the news

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. Hope you are feeling much better now. The meter is helping you enormously. Great inventions and definitely my best investment to date. Your blood sugars went up with the semolina idlis and you have therefore popped it on your list of food to avoid...

Newly Diagnosed - trying to process the news

I have never really been a great lover of fruit to be honest. If I do have any it's usually strawberries or raspberries with full fat yoghurt, cream or low carb ice-cream. They don't tend to put up my bs. They aren't in season where you are, is frozen an option for you perhaps? I did a couple...

Im Aishia diagnosed with Type 2 about 10 years ago. It was 75 then. Been upd down o er the years. It is really hard work sometimes to get it down to

Thanks for the tag @krishk Hi @Aishia and welcome Sorry to hear about the bad experiences with GPs. My family have had a couple of bad experiences too. One of those was that my daughter got drug induced lupus from acne meds. Turned out she should have has regular blood tests done after being...

Definitely a great result re the FBS. I personally don't think you need to invest in another meter. All glucose meters have to meet an accuracy of +/- 15%. I have bought 3 meters over the years (mainly to lend to others) and did an experiment once comparing them all. Rarely got the same...

    Newly diagnosed

Hi Daizee and welcome to the forum. As the others have said, blood glucose testing is a great way of seeing how different food/drink effect you. @Rachox has shared details of the popular meters. I've attached a guide to testing which will help. Keep a food diary. I used the app 'mysugr' to put...

Newly Diagnosed - trying to process the news

Dealing with depression isn't easy, my dad suffered terribly and I saw this first hand, and I have family members and friends who struggle. I read only this week about a link between depression and insulin resistance (Psychology Today). I know that many people have seen improvements in their...
