    Regular moderate exercise log

I did my usual 90 minute walk today. Found the first 20 minutes tough today. The exercise bike worked my calves yesterday, it seems.

    Regular moderate exercise log

Yes, I'm not a regular walker after meals, mainly because my biggest meal is in the evening and I rarely fancy walking in the dark. But these days I am more willing to get on my exercise bike for ten to twenty minutes rather than taking a 'correction dose.'

LOL, yes, it never really stops being mysterious, but you can learn to be better prepared and make better guesses! You may find some useful stuff here: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-sport-and-blood-sugar.html and here: http://www.runsweet.com/index.html

    Help! Hypoglycaemia Mornings.

First of all do the night time basal, and then the day time ones as it suggests. After that, you may find that your insulin:carb ratios need changing (or you may not), but you cannot possibly get those right until the basal is sorted. Once you get the night time one right, you will feel MUCH...

does anyone else have a large snack for lantus?

I had that problem with Lantus. If I wanted it to last into the next evening, I would end up hypoing in the night. You might do better on a different basal, like Levemir or the new one, Tresiba. Keep very good records and get an appointment at your diabetic clinic and ask for a change - at least...

come out of honeymoon, feeling a bit down.

It gets easier! The most useful tip (and you know this really because you said it): stop over-treating stuff, whether highs or lows. Let it work out over a few weeks so you don't get stuck on a rollercoaster.

does anyone else have a large snack for lantus?

Did you mean "reduce my Lantus"? Im a bit confused here!

    Help! Hypoglycaemia Mornings.

Honestly, if it were me, and I were having that kind of drastic hypo in the mornings, I would cut my Lantus by 4 units straight away. It isn't feasible to do a basal test when you are regularly hypoing. Cut it and drink milk or eat something before bed. If you end up with high blood sugars for a...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Ryan, these kinds of spikes do indicate something is not great, but 10.3 is far from disastrous. it is very nearly there. But you need to take into account what it was before the bolus, and the timing of your insulin dose and meal. Ideally you should inject about fifteen minutes before the meal...

    Regular moderate exercise log

Pouring with rain again here. I'm going to get on my exercise bike on the balcony this afternoon. Meanwhile, for your entertainment, here's a nice piece about the benefits of walking for diabetics: http://diatribe.org/issues/51/adams-corner Oh, and back again. Ate an apple, got on the bike for...

    How much basal is normal?

I am 66kg and 165cm tall and take 14 or 15 units a day as basal. But I am much older than your daughter. I believe it is fairly normal for adolescents to need highish basal rates. If you think her insulin intake is too high, there are two questions: is she having many hypos, so she has to "feed...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

Before we know whether that was a good ratio or not, we need to know what your blood sugar was before you bolused, and also how long you waited between bolusing and eating. Did you test before the meal as well? (It isn't a useless result to have, though. All records are good. With just a little...

    Fighting fatigue

Walking burns a lot of blood sugar so you need to test your blood sugar before you start, then twenty or thirty minutes in, then again every thirty minutes, basically, until you get your "pattern" worked out. You may be starting with too high a blood sugar, which leaves you feeling awful and...

Tight control when pregnant - Type 2

Type 1 Confidence issues with Diabetes

I didn't have such severe confidence problems after my mid-thirties. But when I got a pump a year ago (early fifties), my confidence soared. It was really difficult for the first six months but I gradually learned how to use it well, and having the ability to manage my diabetes so well (finally)...

    16 weeks pregnant hypos?

It is normal for your insulin resistance to increase while pregnant, so you do have to keep adjusting basal and bolus rates on a fairly regular basis throughout. Then after the birth you have to readjust your doses back down very quickly. Your body is changing at a speed that is never really...
