Low carbs do not always work

Another totally pointless contribution, Sid. :D

    I don't like feeling manipulated

I asked you to clarify because you seemed to be suggesting that being told that 'bread, potatoes, rice, pastry, pasta' are bad for you as a diabetic was wrong, and represented some sort of 'Big Pharma' 'voodoo medicine' which was intended to 'manipulate' you into 'buying test strips'. That would...

    I don't like feeling manipulated

Would you like to clarify who you think 'manipulated' you, and who you think gave you the wrong dietary advice and why?

HBa1c 77 on metformin and glipazide worried

77 is awful! There is no point in talking the pills unless you are also adjusting diet and exercise. It sounds like you haven't really accepted your diagnosis as diabetic and what it entails. Make this the day that you change all that -- you won't regret it. :D

At my age is it worth it ?

All this is of course true, AlexMBrennan, but I'm sorry, you seem to be completely deaf to context and nuance. Read what the OP has been writing here and elsewhere and THINK!

    My "new" diet

Do stay positive -- you just need to tweak your diet: Have 6 cups of coffee, but with sweetener 3 or 4 slices of bread a week is OK -- if you try the Livlife low-carb bread. Have plain yoghurt with fresh berries, rather than fruit yoghurt. Sensible adjustments can have a big impact

Bit of advise please feeling sick

Hi Mrsshop -- it is really important that you get a meter and testing strips. You can't really 'try to control' if you don't have a way of measuring. By all means check with the nurse, but if she is not helpful you have got to take control yourself. Get a meter and test strips, read the forum...

    Black Friday!

Well, two other morals might be: 1. Try finding a more mature way of enjoying yourself. 2. Don't get a job in a hospital, as you will end up having to deal with all this self-induced carnage.

How much damage does one bad day do?

The Aldi one sounds great - v. popular among diabetics. After a year on 80%, you should find Cadbury's horribly sweet and bland by your next birthday. Have a good one tomorrow.

How much damage does one bad day do?

Just one square of choc is fine as a treat. If you go for an 80% chocolate like Green & Black's you are allowed 2 squares!

How much damage does one bad day do?

All depends on your self-control on other days. Why not make your bad day an annual event on your birthday? :D

when do you take your tablets

Hi -- obvious question, I know, but what steps have you taken to change your diet? Metformin can help, but won't have much effect unless you are also changing diet and exercise.

    Insensitive Boss! :(

That's great! The hba1c, I mean -- but that's the point. If you can control your diabetes that's the crucial issue. Your manager is ill-informed and stupid, but so are many many people, and the media keeps pushing the lifestyle point. Your hba1c tells you what a star you are, not your manager's...

    Terminal and Scared

Hi Kevin -- this is the last thing you need. Why not write it out as a normal text document, and then just select text and copy and paste it into the post? That way you still have the text and can keep pasting it until the post works.

    Let's kick type 2's again!

wouldn't want you to deny it -- I respect you for saying it. But there are T2s who are slim; and there are non-diabetics who are obese. Genetic predisposition is the unmentioned bit in the report.

    Let's kick type 2's again!

so what was your T2 linked to mongoose? Lifestyle, obesity or age?

Whats the most annoying thing people say about diabetes?

But if life isn't managed then it can't be lived (for diabetics).

What is the status of the 'Basic Information'?

Given recent comments on other threads about the forum members' lack of medical expertise, and criticism of remarks about low-carb diets and 'white carbohydrates', could someone please explain what is the status of the 'Basic Information for Newly Diagnosed Diabetics' that gets posted to...

Errr... that just means you're over-calculating on the insulin, doesn't it?
