    This Morning Doctor on diabetes

Could this be the same Dr Chris who suffers from coeliac and demands gluten-free signs on products? Perhaps if he develops diabetes himself he might start to think differently...

    Pills - no thanks.

Well done. I'm sure others will observe that you have unnecessarily restricted yourself on some things and over-indulged unnecessarily in others, but the main thing is that you have found a combination that you can stick with and which has achieved the right result. There's no need to present it...

I smoke, drink and eat chocolate - bite me!!

OK, this is going to make me unpopular but here goes. We all fall off the waggon sometimes, and it is important for a forum to have threads where diabetics can confess their failings and encourage each other to get back on the waggon. I suspect Andy was responding to the fact that this thread...

I smoke, drink and eat chocolate - bite me!!

Smoking IS suicidal, for diabetics -- come ON, people!

    sin bin

Red wine will actually reduce your bg levels (one of the few pieces of good news about diabetes). Arguably one unit of red wine a day would form part of a well-controlled diabetic diet -- it's medicinal, not an indulgence! :D

I still haven't had an appointment?

Clearly the clinic forgot. You should definitely contact them, explain what you were told, and book another appointment. HCPs are only human, and can forget things. Before your meeting, write down the things that are worrying you about your condition, and when you meet the nurse/consultant bring...

No Insulin for 2 weeks and blood sugar fine ?

Hi Vespa. Sounds like you are right and the initial diagnosis of T1 was incorrect. If you are T2 or LADA then it's possible that going straight onto insulin gave your pancreas a rest and helped it to recover a little (though only if you stick to your diet and exercise regime). Good luck, and let...

    Regular weekly hypo

Gezzathorpe what is your problem? Are you on something? Or are you just very bored? If you don't have anything to contribute to a topic, can't you just ignore it?

A Burden on the NHS - Type 2's

Hi lukkymik. Sounds like you've had a really tough time and are heading in the right direction with weight etc. But could you tell us what your target hba1c is? 8.3 is better than 12.8, but it is still not in the safe zone. I can understand the relief at having steady BS levels, but they must be...

    Calling all Type 2s

Fair enough -- here it is: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/d ... -diabetes# See also the 'Petition to David Nicholson' thread

    Calling all Type 2s

Of course we should try to stop HCPs telling new T2s that they do not need to test. But petitioning that they should be banned for saying this is not the way to have your petition taken seriously. Ideally, ALL T2s should have the opportunity to use testing strips to monitor their sugar levels, I...

    Laughing at ourselves!

Did you hear about the overly-made up diabetic woman? Fake tan, false eyelashes – even her low blood sugar incidents were false hypos….

Petition to Sir David Nicholson ; Test strips

Great idea McDonagh -- split diabetics' response with a rival petition, and demand the banning of healthcare professionals and provision of unlimited test strips just to make doubly sure that no one will take it seriously. Hope you feel proud of yourself.

    Unsuccessfully low carbing

Take snacks with you -- carrots, celery sticks - sounds dull, but once you get into the habit you'll find they curb cravings. If you're struggling to remove most carbs, try doing it by degrees (eg have sandwiches but not with white or wholemeal bread, then try them as an open sandwich so that...

Throw them away?! :D (they always spike me...)

How did YOU come up with your username?

Anna - you have actually stumbled across something a lot more weird. A friend of mine told me years ago that she had done research on the birthdates of people's spouse's parents, and by chance found out that a bafflingly high percentage of people's wives were born around the same date (not...

Whats everyones worst fall off the wagon?

Oh come off it -- you know that's not what I was saying. I was trying to make the basic point that diabetics need to be aware that whatever we eat has implications, and too much talk of having occasional treats and falling off waggons runs the risk of occasional treats becoming regular...

    What your HbA1c actually means

DEFINITELY take your readings with you. They are proof of your new virtuous life, and they are irrefutable evidence that you are doing the right thing.

    What your HbA1c actually means

Oh I just mean the booklet for readings you get with your meter. Some call it a 'Log Book'. I know someone who calls it his Fantasy Novel, because he only enters BG readings that are good -- he is going to Diabetes Hell.
