On the...

Suddenly Novorapid does not work - Type 1

I have been having the same problem with novorapid. I know no two days may be the same but one shredded wheat today (20carbs) , I would take 2 units. ( 1 unit to 10 carbs). Now I seem to have to have 4units for the one shredded wheat. I've noticed that my BG levels also rise during the day. I...

I eat a couple of water biscuits or cream crackers when I am feeling sick. Then as I feel better some chicken soup. But what ever you fancy even if it's one mouthful, it's better than nothing.

    Am I a Pancreatic or a Diabetic

Think I meant to write pancreatic disease. There are many people with pancreatic insufficiency due to non functioning pancreas or degrees of removal of pancreas that do not have diabetes. I have a small bit of the head left as the rest disintegrated in one episode of pancreatitis. I was in and...

    Am I a Pancreatic or a Diabetic

There are many classifications of diabetes. The majority are either treated for type 1 or type 2. Most of the other types don't really have their own treatment so many people only get referred to as either type 1 or 2. There appear to be only two types of diabetes management, Type 1 and Type 2...

I had a GAD test in June this year which came back as Type 1. I understand that the test only detects either type1 or 2. My diabetes was caused from severe acute pancreatitis. How do they test for Type 3c ? Does anyone know?

    Ketones

Thanks for all your replies folks. I do think if I'd had the strips to test it would have saved an out of hours GP visit. I suspect it is a cost issue. The GP practice only supply blood sugar test strips for the GlucoRX Nexus monitor. This monitor flashes madly if your BS goes over 13. They...

    Ketones

Do all you type 1's have ketone testing kit for home use. I have been quite sick/vomiting the last week and had to call out of hours GP service. They asked me over the phone for blood sugar level and ketone level. I said I couldn't do a ketone test as I don't have the facility to do so. Ketones...

sugar intake recommendation needs lowering. News today.

They need to go back to the drawing board!!!! Nearly everything has hidden sugar in some form. They're hell bent on portraying sweets and pop as the only food that has sugar in it. Makes my glucose boil !!!

    Type 1 caused by pancreatitis

Unfortunately they will not remove my gallbladder because of the large necrotic collection of pancreas. Maybe when they have treated that they can do it and if I haven't had another bout of pancreatitis !!! Maybe there should be a section on Type 3c. More people would become aware of it then...

Hi Tony. Thank you so much for your reply. Your situation is very similar to mine. My acute pancreatitis was June 2014 and I am still recovering from it. They have just told me I still need 12 months to recover. It's a very slow process and still not enough is known about it. I only have a...

The Insulin Passport is simply to allow Pharmacists to CYA

I was given the card by my diabetic hospital nurse but not by the hospital that I was diagnosed in six months earlier. I was told to carry it on me as it states what insulin I am on. I have never been asked for it in the chemist but I do use the same chemist and electronic prescription...

Weight gain on low carb diet and exercise

Could it be that you are turning fat to muscle. A lot of people when they start or increase exercise and watch their diet, often gain weight but reduce or tone the body. Both carbs and cals seem high. Maybe time to review your diet. Can your diabetic nurse help?
