Acute Infected Necrotising Pancreatitis and Beyond...

Good to hear from you, the acceptance part is difficult, once I checked out of hospital I spent a little time recuperating and then threw myself back into normal life, which included partying, ended up in hospital again. My BG recovered to a level that they released me from hospital, however...

Can you lose weight when you're T1D?

I lost weight massively pre being diagnosed. Surely once you you start taking the right amount of insulin you put weight on as you are not then peeing away the rest as you say? Do you manage your BG?

Acute Infected Necrotising Pancreatitis and Beyond...

Massive respect to you, I had severe acute pancreatitis in 2008, nearly died and lost most of my pancreas at the time, developed diabetes a few years later. Got back on the bike last year, but struggle with the BG management before and after, so Kudos to you for your achievements.

    Pancreatitis.

I had acute severe pancreatitis late 2008, I nearly died. When you're sat on the bed and your pulse is 145, and your blood pressure is 230/190 you know you're pretty screwed, luckily I survived. I took so much morphine I tripped out, ripped a catheter out of my nob, and ran out of the hospital...

    Type 3c Diabetes

Although it's much akin to T1. When in hospital I found the knowledge levels of the staff to be poor, I only got a straight answer from a consultant. Although a somewhat cryptic one.

    Insulin

Stress Hormones play a massive part for me, adrenalin is a huge kicker of upturn in BG. I did some work activity that put me hugely out of my comfort zone, I took the normal basal, skipped breakfast, and my BG shooter from 6mmol to 20 by lunchtime.

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

My bad it's 3C, basically it means your pancreas is gone due to other reasons.

How much alcohol is removed by cooking? Not so much!

I am 3.5c but enjoy a lot of alcohol, everything in moderation is what I've been told.

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

I was 38 when diagnosed, agree with you about the lack of support. An opportunity to take part in the 'Three Peaks' challenge came up through work. I liked the idea of it, but didn't put myself forward as I wouldn't have a clue how to effectively manage my BG whilst doing something like that.

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

I was diagnosed late on in life for T1/T3.5C, I was fine for the first three years other than neuropathy when I first brought my BG down from >40mmol to a normal level. After 3 years I went off the rails for about 6 months as I felt I couldn't get a handle on it, I had loads of inexplicably...

Factors in Long Term Survival of T1Ds

Kudos to you, a role model for me. 3.5 yrs after diagnosis I'm lapsing in my control after the initial education and strict discipline.

Is this the case with exercise to correct high bs

Cardio doesn't generally reduce BG unless >45mins.

    Diabetic Girl.

The only labelling I seem to get is that the people at work who know I have type1 seem to make an instant judgement that "You can't eat that" but it's not a big deal.

    Diabetes and flying

never had a letter, just have sealed needles not attached to the pens, and just shove the pens in the liquids bag, I fly a lot, and no issues

    Question about feet

I exercise most days, running, cycling etc but don't have any blisters, as most people don't, is your footwear correct? I'd be concerned about the blisters generally regardless of diabetes. Annual foot review, now that's something new for me, I haven't even had a dr's appointment for 18...
