how concerned should I be about blisters? I exercise most nights of the week and can't remember the last time I didn't have any blisters. I had just been for my annual foot review and alls they were concerned about was checking the sensitivity...other than that I just got given a leaflet about being at an increased risk

I would get better trainers...
Ongoing blisters may well cause problems. I'm not saying that they will 100% but why risk it for the sake of better trainers and or socks?

As @donnellysdogs says, you should probably try some different trainers if you are constantly getting blisters. No matter how often you exercise/run etc. you shouldn't be getting them recurrently. If you still have no luck I'd suggest paying out of pocket for a podiatrist or gait analysis session so that you can get some specialist advice on what's causing this. You might need some orthotics to help out.

I think it unwise for you to wait for annual reviews if I where in your shoes I woul make regular appointments with a podiatrist at at least 3 monthly intervals or at least get some one to check your feet regularly as you are sustaining frequent damage to your feet and a diabetic foot can be a serious matter. A podiatrist can make orthotic inserts or pads that can help with blistering and help keep your feet healthy.

Edit
Sorry pinewood didn't mean to cross post but it takes me ages to type out a response lately.

Thank you.
I've tried so many pairs of shoes it's just not feasible anymore, I now own at least 20 pairs. Also had insoles made which admittedly did help slightly but didn't eradicate them.

Also tried all kinds of socks too but none that have worked

I exercise most days, running, cycling etc but don't have any blisters, as most people don't, is your footwear correct? I'd be concerned about the blisters generally regardless of diabetes.

Annual foot review, now that's something new for me, I haven't even had a dr's appointment for 18 months, did have a retinaopothy appt though.

I've spent so much money trying to find some shoes that that don't give me them but there's none.
Yeah the appointment was strange, I seem to get chased up every other month by the doctors and when I attend it's always the same thing.

Have you tried using blister plasters as a preventative measure? I've done that in the past when I know a particular shoe could give me a blister. It works for dancing and every day shoes but I have absolutely no experience of running for any distance.

Blister plasters didn't seem to do anything either :( just made it worse when I had to take it off ha

Apparently the thing to do is to put surgical tape on your feet. You know, the ordinary white stuff for holding plasters on that costs 70p in Boots. That's what they do in the army to prevent blisters.
