    T2 fuel for longer runs

You may not need to eat anything else. Try to keep increasing the distance and see how you feel, you may just be getting tired from a harder/longer run. My normal run is a 4-7k trail run. I do longer or faster ones on occasion and do feel those at first. I have bumped up my distance lately to...

    Disgruntlement!

Try wearing a libre to get a sense of what may be causing the increases. Also exercise really seems to help as if forces your body to use up glucose stores. When there is less glucose it will get better managing what is available. At least that is what I understand!

    Is Diabetes a Progressive Disease?

The increase in carbs after fat/protein could be from your liver from glucose strores if it happens soon after eating. When you eat those things you may be releasing insulin, dropping BG and then your liver releases to make up for it. I can see little blips throughout the day on my libre when I...

    Adding carbs and lowering BG?!?

For trends it is great. It does have a margin of error it works with though as do all meters.

    Adding carbs and lowering BG?!?

No prick test. I have actually found libres to read high on me in the past compared to my hba1c so I take the actual numbers with scepticism. This one seems to be about accurate though compared to my hba1c results or possibly a little low, I will see in a few weeks. I always get really weird...

    Adding carbs and lowering BG?!?

Interesting. As I seemed to be dealing with the carbs pretty well initially (BG dropped quickly) I didn't think this was happening. But, last night I had some chinese takeaways one of which had a sugary sauce. I noticed my BG stayed a bit into the 9s and even 10 briefly before it finally...

    LCHF diet but High Cholesterol

It is a numbers game. To get calories you can choose between fat, protein or carbs. If you give up carbs that only leaves two options fat or protein. If you are trying to lose weight you can go into deficit for a while but only until you get to where you want to be. You need to look at the...

    Adding carbs and lowering BG?!?

I used to monitor my BG until I felt that between numbers and diet there was really no need so haven't for 6 months. I put on a libre recently as I do eat the occasional carby thing and I wanted to make sure I was not getting bad spikes from them. The results have surprised me. When I ate two...

    Newbie T2 where to start?

I have to run off but quick response on how long to see results. I saw a lot of variability over the first few months but trends kept getting better after a few months my BG got much more predictable and not much to see. As you will no doubt hear from others carbs are the key. Eat less and your...

    Less regular testing routine

I do quarterly hba1c but have cut back a lot on regular monitoring. I have a libre on now but have not done that for 6 months. I suspect I will do a libre once or twice a year unless I get an hba1c I don't like. My line is pretty flat on my libre and I end up getting annoyed over pretty small...

Is it too soon to fast?

I totally understand. I struggled with the diagnosis, adjusting to a new diet and wanting to turn it around while getting limited feedback (results). In my case I wore a libre that showed I was doing OK but not as well as I had hoped. My actual hba1c after 3 months though was quite a bit better...

Is it too soon to fast?

I don't fast so can't comment on that part of it. I can say it will take your body some time to adjust. I was hugely impatient wanting results right away. I got results but not in the days I was hoping for more like weeks and months. You sound like you are off to a good start though and will...

    Frustration’

It sounds like you are doing really well! Diet and lifestyle change can have a massive impact so keep it up! I came to realise that I needed to be responsible for my own health and to do that I needed to educate myself and make my own decisions. I ignored my old GPs advice (take lots of...

    Unexpected (good) self testing results!

Absolutely! For me it was diet and genetics that got me where I was. I probably used to get about 70% of my calories from carbs as that is what I grew up with and I thought fat was bad for me. I have been running for 10 years now so that is easy to keep up it is just the diet I have to watch.

    Unexpected (good) self testing results!

I have not monitored my BG for about 6 months other than quarterly hba1c tests as the last monitoring I did had me mostly a flat line all the time except for mornings. I had a libre sitting around I put on a couple days ago as I wanted to know what impact a ‘bad’ meal once a month, some beer on...

Cautionary tale - just a little bit should be fine.....

Well you motivated me to do some testing. I have not monitored BG for about 6 months other than quarterly hba1c tests as the last monitoring I did had me mostly a flat line all the time except for mornings. I had a libre sitting around I put on a couple days ago as I have been eating and...

    'It's your Diabetes.'

It may well have dropped (hope it has!) but from the GPs standpoint he can't see that without the test results so I can see why the GP is responding as he is.

How low is your BG going?

Thanks for that. I guess I was expecting 4s but not 3s! I'm seeing some 6s too but not as much as I used to that is for sure.

    'It's your Diabetes.'

You are probably not going to like my response so sorry in advance. Uncontrolled diabetes does cause nerve damage so I can see why he is concerned about that as a cause. GPs hear a lot about good intentions but without data they take it with a grain of salt and he doesn't have the data...

    LCMF v LCHF

Everyone is different, it is what works for you that matters If you like the diet, can maintain it and are getting good results carry on and enjoy the rewards. I don't eat a lot of animal fat personally as I don't like fatty cuts of meat. I get a little fat from cream in coffee and cheese but...
