Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Hi Bluetit. I did discuss this with my doctor, and ask for his justification. He said that he concentrated on HB1AC levels as it had been proved that keeping them below 6.5 was the best way to avoid complications. I suppose it is a moot point anyway, people with high morning readings are very...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

5.9, which is low for me, following a 6.4 on Sunday and my lowest ever 4.9 on Saturday! It is interesting that my doctor is completely disinterested in morning readings, only looks at the HB1AC test..

    Drug Concerns

There is some good information on drugs on the Blood Sugar 101 website. This is the page. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/17977284.php

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6.3 today. Seem to have come down about 0.5 recently, and I don't think I have been doing anything differently.

    Contour meter

If you phone them, they will probably send you one for free. They did with me. They make the money from the test strips, not the meters...

    My Doc Says ...

I had my review a couple of weeks ago with the 'diabetic nurse'. Actually she may be for real, she must weigh 16 stone! The reivew if to have 15 minutes to fully review my condition.... It was a complete waste of time, I think I know more about T2 than she does. She did a finger test, which was...

What should my morning blood sugar be?

Like a lot of people here I seem to struggle with dawn readings. I was 6.8 this morning, despite being 5.7 after eating last night. I think we are all different, and I have learned to not obsess about the morning reading if my overall control is fine. There is, after all, not a lot I can do...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Thanks, I will! I just have to make sure I don't go mad on the carbs. I am stable on 130-150g per day, and I can judge that pretty well now. It's just nice to have a week off recording everything I eat and testing.

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6.4 This morning. On a bit of a downward trend. However, off to Italy tomorrow for a week, so the restaurants there will be interesting! As usual on holiday, I will 'forget' my testing kit, but be sensible with what I eat!

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6.8 this morning. Still don't quite get this... Last night I had a 50g carb meal of chicken and pasta with no alcohol. Was 6.2 after 1 hour and 5.0 after 2 hours. So I must still have a reasonable pancreas, but it seems to be a bit lazy overnight. Anyone got any ideas?

What do you like most about being a diabetic???

The positives for me are being 14'10 rather than 18'5, with all the benefits that go with that, and being able to walk 10 miles last Saturday without being too tired or stiff the next day!

    Newbie

Diana Sorry to hear of your problems. Wills bring out the worst in people! You are already testing ,which is great, and half the battle. The next step for me was to count carbs, and see what my pancreas could cope with. I find that at 150g of carbs a day my levels remain within guidelines, and...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6.7 This morning. Fairly typical, although I did have a 5.6 last week. Bizarrely, my morning readings are normally higher than my readings 2 hours after my main meal...

    Mental note....dont eat pizza

Pizza is not all the same though! Domino's tends to be very thick and full of dough. I have the very occasional very thin Prezzo pizza, and leave the edges, and the readings after are fine.

    Black and Blue

Do you mean bruising, which is sore, and starts and fades, or is it painless and permanent? Some drugs can cause staining, especially on the lower limbs. The best known is Minocycline. Caterham

How do you cope waiting for test results?

Hi Montana Many thanks for the reply. I think it has got a bit easier, but it is my character to worry at a problem until I have a solution or feel that I know all I can know. The 21+ reading was a total error, as I tested twice straight afterwards and I was sub 5, so that was not an issue. I...

How do you cope waiting for test results?

Just curious to know, and does it get easier over time? I had my fourth Hb1AC test last week, so could phone the surgery yesterday for the results. Although I thought it would be OK (Good test results over the last 6 months) I got increasingly worried about it as Monday approached, to the...

Is there ANY bread that I can eat ?

Personally cannot abide Burgen. Have you tried Warburton's thins? They are great for making sandwiches, and are 100 cals and 20g carbs for 2 slices (2 slices is one 'thin') So you can have just one for 10g carbs. I also use mini wholemeal rolls, also 10g carbs. Caterham

First pint of real ale (beer) since D (diagnosis) Day)

Hi Jis It sounds like you have very good control. I think it is very unlikely that one pint of beer would have an impact 9 hours later. Beer is quite high in carbs (about 25g per pint I think), higher than lager, but only marginally. I have done some intensive testing of alcohol's affects on...
