Hbac1 question

Love my docs remarks about it seriously poorly controlled hey lady why is it all my other hba1c have been good even the consultant and diabetic nurse have not had a problem I think I have new narrow minded doctor considering I've had gastro probs over last Month n bit

Hi. That new figure is far too high. Can you think of any particular reason why it may has gone up? Perhaps it was the gastro problems. I assume you are having a low-carb diet with small'ish protion to keep the sugars down? Let us know if you are young and not overweight as the possibility of Late onset Type 1 comes into play.

Oh I hope its not type 1 well I'm 33 19.1 stone was 20.6 in December I've struggled with my weight stayed off the realy sugary stuff always diet or squash drinks coffee with sweetner or water alcohol don't realy drink last pint was over 5 weeks ago do have carbs not to good on counting them but normaly bs run between 5 n 8 last hba1c was low 50 doc was happy with that no med change then just over this last month I've been feeling sick lose bowels been sick a few times while all this was happening my blood sugars crept up into teens then 2 weeks sat they went up to 30 plus went to a&e Sunday fobed off with just increase in metformin no hba1c done then collapsed on Tuesday rushed into hospital they said I had gastro probs high bs dehydration my sugars have been good this week between 4.5 and 9 I'm on metformin 3x glicazide 2 x and 16 units of insulatard

Hi. Thanks for the info. Sounds like your illness may have pushed your sugars up as illness usually does. I think if you are able to reduce your weight gradually by setting a carb target of, say, less than 150 gm/day and having low-GI carbs, then your sugars should stabilise and you might need less insulin. All this helps with weight reduction and sugar swings. At your weight you may have some insulin resistance which makes insulin control more difficult. Yes, 33 is quite young and late onset T1 is always a possibility so if your sugars should continue to rise regardless of diet then check back with the GP.

I think there is somthing in background I'm still not feeling right felt very nauseous sun afternoon shaking at night and feeling bad Mon I understand the tiredness is the effect of high sugars I felt tired for months after I was diagnosed first time for type 2 I don't know perhaps I'm wrong and it is my diabetes playing up but hospital are sending me for colonoscopy just feel bit let down by gp nothing seems to have been checked Friday gone she did not even check my bs just had little chat no checks as to why I was still getting little pain in abdomen
