    WHATS GOING ON

Because it's early days I imagine your body has suddenly kicked in with making more of it's own insulin, I experienced a very similar thing. You should definitely speak to your team about adjusting your insulin.

    Burnout?

Hi there, Most people with type 1 go through this at some stage. When your mind is constantly on a condition that could make you pass out at any given time it's hard not to succumb to anxiety. Just try and take baby steps. No one is perfect and you're never gonna be able to get everything sorted...

How much basal insulin are you taking?

5u Lantus, though I've only been diagnosed for 14 months. My bolus is 1:10g

    Smart meters

I have the accu-chek expert too and love it :) I like that I can easily check my averages for up to 90 days, and see various other charts and graphs on it as well

    Diabetic Girl.

Recently, I was telling my 15 year old brother to get off of the PS4, and as he was online talking to his friends they all started moaning about it. I then overheard him say to them "don't be mean to her, she's diabetic." I didn't know how to feel about it because I know that was him trying to...

    Hypos

If you're going to bed at 8.9 and dropping to ~3 then I agree that your basal dosage is definitely too high. You should speak to your nurse/consultant about adjusting it, especially since it sounds like this is consistent.

    Freestyle Libre

I don't have a Feestyle Libre but have been looking into it a lot recently. Their website seemed to have a lot of helpful videos :)

    Unusual Request

It's definitely illegal as it's a prescription drug so you've done the right thing!!

Is it normal to need pretty high doses of Novorapid?

Just as a speculation, I'm also on birth control (combined oral contraceptive) and find that when I have my week off I often need a lot less insulin. I once read somewhere that oestrogen can increase insulin resistance, so if your birth control contains oestrogen then perhaps that's part of it?

How do you compare to average BS levels

Does make me feel a little better!! I think what's most interesting is, as said by others, the massive standard deviation showing how big a difference there is in the diabetic community in terms of management. I think the reason that you wouldn't expect it to be so high given most peoples...

What should I keep track of?

Hi there, I average around 180g carb a day and that seems to be working for me, though I haven't had my HBA1C done since December. I don't think there's much more advice to give here than what's been given already, but just so you know the fat in the Chinese probably aided the bedtime high you...

starting university and living in halls of residence

How long has he been diabetic? I was diagnosed in my third (penultimate) year so didn't have to go through meeting a ton of new people, though did have to tell my housemates. Admittedly I'm a lot closer to home too! Best advice wouold be to be very careful with drinking (which obviously won't be...

How much to bolus for vegetable broth?

I've been told that the meter can be used to, for example, check if a drink in a pub is full-sugar or not. However, I understand the guidance is that you can never use it as an exact figure. You could maybe use the carbs and cals app/book to get an estimated figure. I believe they have vegetable...

    Good bedtime snacks

I do have some 70% at the moment actually, I'm trying to use it to wean myself off of milk chocolate! I have a review in a few weeks so I'll discuss it with them then I think. As it stands I only take 5u Lantus anyway, I think I still produce a lot of my own when I'm fasting so it's a bit of a...

    Good bedtime snacks

I consistently wake up around 6.5mmol. This has VERY gradually increased over the last 6 months, though I've been told not to up my lantus as that's too risky in terms of night time hypos apparently, since I'm not waking up at a bad value. If I'm over 7mmol I don't eat anything. I was just...

    Cakes!!

I like this recipe: http://www.splenda.co.uk/recipes/cupcakes You can use a variation of flavours, and sub some of the flour for ground almonds too. Also, with Splenda (maltodextrin/1% sucralose) being quite pricey in shops, you'll find that Lidl and Aldi both do exact equivalents for about a...

    Good bedtime snacks

I was told that because I take my lantus (basal) at 9pm I should aim to be ~8mmol before going to sleep, and regularly I'm finding myself in the 5's or 6's before bed so am having to have a small snack. However, I've also been very gradually putting on weight recently so I wondered if anyone had...

Type 1 for 7 days. Help!

Hi there, I was diagnosed about a year ago now. My blood sugar was all over the place for the first 7-10 days, being below 12 was a miracle at first!! I don't think you need to worry about making a ton of life changes straight away. You have enough to worry about without changing your diet...

    Support System

Hi there :) you're in the right place!! I'm 22 though have only had type 1 for just over a year I'm glad I didn't have to go through my teen years with it, seems to be where most people struggle! The fact you want to get back on track is great though. I'm amazed and confused as to how you...

Type 1 Excuse my ignorance but .......

It's because of judgemental comments like the one above that I rarely use this forum anymore, which is a real shame because there are actually some people on here who can be very helpful and considerate. Aside from people who think they have the right to judge how others choose to manage their...
