    Hopefully A Great Turn Around

The bit I don't like about losing weight is the non-fitting skin, never mind clothes

    Hopefully A Great Turn Around

Wow! I am so impressed. What willpower. What a phenomenal improvement in your health. I am not surprised your doctor wants to see you, he probably wants to congratulate you himself.:)

    Bad side effects of metformin

I believe LCHF does help if you are a Type 2 using insulin, because it reduces the amount of insulin you need, and that means you are less likely to take an incorrect dose. Watch it carefully though, you don't want to be having any hypos.

Quandry re: the HF in LCHF & Cholesterol

The modern consensus seems to be that saturated fat is not linked to heart disease in any large scale study done in the last 50 years. There are also a slew of modern studies showing that high cholesterol is not linked to heart disease either. Conversely low levels of cholesterol are strongly...

    Morning Glucose Readings

At least you know that during the night your BGs are at a safe level. The dawn phenomenon is very very common. What happens is that about half an hour before your usual time for rising from bed, your liver gives you a nice big burst of glucose so you can start the day bright eyed and bushy...

    Feeling good

Well done Jogreen21, you survived a family get together with your diet intact.! Are you only eating 2/3 things because you are on Metformin and it is affecting your appetite, or because you haven't worked out what is safe to eat yet? Do you have a blood meter? You can use that to try different...

    What to do next ....

I think I have worked out why my BG has suddenly shot up so alarmingly. Stress. One of my children is very ill and is getting worse. I realised that the constant adrenaline surges I am experiencing also put your blood glucose up.

    Mould

As a surveyor (retired) I can say that its a very hard problem to get rid of, mould. It is a problem in badly insulated houses that are too tightly sealed. Keep wiping it off, try not to let the house get too cold, avoid fan heaters. Use the ventilator in the kitchen. If you have an open...

    Confused, concerned and disappointed

Yup, that's it. To us it's a devastating diagnosis, to our healthcare professionals it's absolutely commonplace. No real system seems to be in place to help us to adjust. Further, there is disagreement between experts on the best way to cope. Diabetes is a self managed illness. Thank goodness...

    What to do next ....

In truth my Hb of 5.9 was until two years ago, when I stopped LCHF. For the first year I saw no change in my numbers, then in the second year they escalated very rapidly up to Hb of 8.0 I tried Metformin but it was awful so I returned to low carbing. It has dropped my self tested numbers back...

    What to do next ....

I am reassured that there are others like me whose livers do their own thing on LCHF. I can't handle the drugs so unless I am willing to nag my doctor for insulin I just have to live with variable BGs sometimes well above the ideal. The reassuring thing is that a fasting level of 8.5 is a lot...

    What to do next ....

@Brunneria, that's a good trick. I will try it. I need something! I always eat the same breakfast more or less. 10g. It normalises my BGs down from the fasting level. Some people recommend skipping meals but I find fasting sends my BGs UP. For the last few weeks my fasting levels have been...

    how important this is

Actually my OH gets a bit fed up with the carbs business, but he respects my need to try to stay healthy so he puts up with it. I suspect Pattendowns OH believes his Type 1 family members have a more serious condition and all Type 2s need is a pill to fix them. If only. If he can't accept you...

    No obvious pattern.

The thing is, a GP has to know a little bit about everything, but a Diabetic needs to know a great deal about diabetes. So it's not surprising that we as individuals know a lot more about our condition than our doctors. Doctors don't like to admit that they don't know everything, we might lose...

Adults with type 2 diabetes tend to underestimate heart risks, study says

I wonder how many diabetics are aware of the further increased risk of CVD due to the more commonly prescribed Diabetic drugs?

    Bad side effects of metformin

It can be hard to convince a doctor that diet has any impact on cancer, even bowel cancer! It would be hard to convince me that it doesn't. I am pretty clear that eating vegetable fats that have been chemically manipulated to be solid at room temperature is probably potentially dangerous...

    Feeling frustrated!

I don't think you need to worry about the cold feet Danjess, the weather has been cold. Your readings sound pretty normal for someone who isn't taking drugs and is learning to control their levels. You should test 2 hours after eating, (the one hour spike is bound to be highest), and ideally it...

What do I need to do now?

Yes indeed. It was an experiment. You have given it three months and it hasn't worked. Personally I would rather use insulin than sitagliptin, due to potential side effects, but I can't really comment as I am LCHF diet controlled.
