    Problems with lantus

I had problems with Lantus, stinging was the least of it, I ended up having what felt like plates of armour under my skin, bright red and sore, I wasn't getting any results either from it. Eventually managed to get changed to Humulin I and what a relief, and results too, much better tolerated.

    Co-enzyme Q10

I take bucketfuls of co enzyme q 10, mainly for Mitochondrial disease and it is desperately essential for mobility issues, although I also have Mitochondrial diabetes too. Sadly not available through the GP but can be prescribed by hospitals if you can find the right doctor/dept. Wouldn't be...

    Insulin cartridge pen woes

Thanks for that, I'll get a second pen for the Apidra especially as the new one has an uneven delivery when I press the plunger. As for the Humulin I pen ... I do have a hospital appointment coming up in June they might have heard more about pen problems than my nurse does.

    Insulin cartridge pen woes

Having had a major scare with a broken plunger on my Apidra (short acting insulin) a few weeks ago I have been keeping a closer eye on my Humulin I cartridge pen. My practice only dispenses prescriptions for one pen and so inevitably, 8pm one Friday we realised the plunger had gone and I hadn't...

    TYPE 2 READING 19.2

But, don't go to sleep with that level you are needing to move around, watch tv, just keep an eye and see if it comes down. Others have said that there is insufficient information to give more clear advice, but whatever happens don't panic but take stock of what might be contributing to the...

    Problem with long acting insulin

Hi Has anyone any idea what may be going on? It's early days for me where I have finally been put on Humulin 1 following no response from Lantus. After much faffing I decided to stop Lantus a couple of months ago and found my blood glucose didn't change. I have only taken 6 doses of Humulin 1 and...

    High hba1c

It's possible that the long acting insulin isn't working well, I have just demonstrated that Lantus doesn't work at all for me. Finally seen a hospital consultant this week and have now started on a different insulin. Might be worth looking into, I stumbled across the answer when I forgot to...

What's the craziest thing your doctor's ever said?

Visited the diabetic doctor this week, problems with BG control problems and lack of response with Lantus (plus not feeling well with it etc etc) , while waiting for the appointment I actually came off Lantus altogether with no change in BG levels and feeling much better. I do have complex...

It's complicated, but it's me, insulin problems

Will ask about Novorapid. My injecting technique is ok from what i can tell, it's actually getting my skin to 'give' that is the problem/ The feeling wiped out bit is very evident much of the time. Will ask about an endocrine specialist too. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

It's complicated, but it's me, insulin problems

Will ask about Novorapid then, thanks. Yes to the 4mm needles, but it is my skin that is a problem not stretchy like normal skin. Yes to needing to lose weight, and not sure about low carb, can only manage very small portions of cauliflower, and any veg with taste...

It's complicated, but it's me, insulin problems

Hi I have a complex health scenario which includes Type 2 (or similar), thyroid, asthma, allergies, IBS and Mitochondrial disease... I am struggling to control my blood glucose, and using needles (although we now reckon my skin is just unyielding and nothing but nothing will penetrate without...

Help with a new insulin pen

I have now persuaded myself that my skin must be not yielding to the needle, for whatever reason, and I do have a better record using novotwist, so will ask for a Clikstar on tuesday and something like th BD micro fine needles.

Help with a new insulin pen

Am counting to ten, like I did with the novotwist needles, and it's like the skin graps the needle with gluco rx, there is no sliding in and out. To all intents it feels like I am using a blunt knitting needle.

Help with a new insulin pen

I think the nurse is doing her best, she complained that she didn't have much in the way of pens to show me as the reps were cutting down, and has helped with technique in the past. The Clikstar does look like a good option, just hope they will allow me to have one, even if I have to buy a...

Help with a new insulin pen

I've been injecting for a couple of years or more, and have the odd blip with bleeds and pain, but the needles I used to have, novotwist, always come away smoothly and go in smoothly, unlike the gluco rx ones. I am on 5mm needles as I have a weight problem.

Help with a new insulin pen

Leg for Lantus and tummy for Apidra.

Help with a new insulin pen

Well, I tried the needles again last night and it is clear to me that they struggle to enter my skin, and hurt when they do, and then when the needle is withdrawn it drags my skin up with it (ouch), and then I found a large puddle of insulin sitting on my skin... To my mind the needle is...

Help with a new insulin pen

Thanks cosmicpoppy, will mention these options to the nurse next week. I have little 'bend' in my thumb and hence no pressure to apply to the pen top.
