    High BGs after probiotics

I understood that taking probiotics after a course of antibiotics or antimicrobials was important to ‘reseed’ the population of good bacteria. I’ve managed it with diet too, but my digestion is completely shot as well. Even worse, I don’t seem to be coping well with protein anymore, which is...

    New Topic Area - MIDD?

I haven’t been to this forum in a long time, but it seems like there are a lot more people with MIDD or mitochondrial diabetes here than there used to be. Was there any conclusion on the possibility of a MIDD/MELAS or just a mitochondrial diabetes section in the forum?

    High BGs after probiotics

I’m low carb already, but I have SIBO. I was hoping the probiotics would help improve my gut fauna (along with prebiotics), as I’ve taken dietary and natural antimicrobial steps to help things along, without much improvement to be honest.

    High BGs after probiotics

Yeah, I’m really annoyed. Hopefully they’ll give me a refund on the remaining packets.

    High BGs after probiotics

Oh no :( I’ve given them a call to see if I can return them, they didn’t have an ingredients list on their website, I wouldn’t have bought it if I’d known.

    High BGs after probiotics

I’ve been taking a probiotic for just over a week and my BG levels have been significantly raised, I’ve only started suspecting the probiotics today. The first ingredient is maltose, which is a high GI sugar, but there’s only 4.4 grams total weight per packet, (including the probiotics). Could...

    Amount of protein per day?

Thanks Gravity-Carb, this works out at about 60 mg for me, so looks like I've been eating about the right amount , I thought I might be over doing it with the chicken!

    Amount of protein per day?

Could someone tell me if I'm eating too much or too little protein? Currently I'm eating around 60g - 70g per day (actual protein, i.e. so 100g of chicken = approximately 30g of protein), based on figures from Bernstein, does this sound about right. I'm 5"2, weigh 7 and a half stone and am 40...

    Reduced Phase II Insulin?

I know that BGs levels around 7 are still deemed ok by the NHS, bit I've always felt awful once I go over about 6, which just shouldn't be possible, but I've always known once I'm over 6-7 because I feel like I do at the moment, which is terrible. I'm underweight (as I have a mitochondrial...

    Reduced Phase II Insulin?

So I recently posted that I was experiencing higher BGs due to a HF diet, but now I'm starting to wonder if in fact my Beta cells are giving up and it might be time for medication. Usually, following a LC diet, not particularly high in fat ( the addition of fat was a more recent experiment)...

HF diet has increased my BG

Yeah, I think taking it each day at a time and eating to our meters is probably the best thing to do.

    Mitochondrial disease and Type1A

@kesun @worcesterwoman @oldeboy @Ceesharp I've only just come across this thread, it's great that there are a few more of us on the forum now, so I was wondering if it might be worth asking if we can have our own group? Last time I tried this, a few years ago, I was told that there weren't...

HF diet has increased my BG

No problem @zand I can see how the 'diet and exercise only' could be confusing :) Thanks for letting me know how to tag! I'm going to give it a week or two of cutting right back on the fat to see how this effects my BG, if this has no effect then I may have to consider bringing my clinic...

HF diet has increased my BG

"edit; I was thinking about this whilst preparing strawberries for dinner and then came back and checked because I thought mitochondrial diabetes tended to be progressive but really wasn't that sure . http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/53/suppl_1/S103.full is 10 years old but suggests...

HF diet has increased my BG

Sorry zand, I should have made it clear that I'm neither a type I or type II diabetic, although MIDD diabetics tend to be closer to type I's as they don't produce much insulin and generally lose beta cell function at a rapid rate, which tends to mean progressing to insulin around 2-4 years after...

HF diet has increased my BG

donnellydogs, I find your experience, as a type I really interesting. I'm returning to a similar diet to you, just olive oil and very little saturated fats. AndBreathe, I see that you're a type 2, so maybe you wouldn't see as much of an effect that type I's seem to get from a high fat diet. I'd...

HF diet has increased my BG

Thanks for the links, I came across the top one today as well. I knew that coconut oil was suppose to contain both long and medium chain fatty acids, but I didn't know that there was debate about whether or not the MCTs were actually MCTs. Either way, I'm excluding it from my diet as of today...

HF diet has increased my BG

Thanks for your replies, love your signature nosher, always nice to talk to a fellow trekkie ;) I'm very low carb (about 20g per day) and have been for the last four years, so I don't think lowering my carb intake will help to be honest. I've been on the coconut oil for a few months now, so I...
