Type 2 lots of questions from a newly diagnosed type 2

Regarding the Urine. I'm on Metformin and Glicazide, and have noticed the same. I've put it down to going much less often and drinking less as I'm not so thirsty. When I do drink a lot of water (to replace beer that I used to drink) it seems to go back to normal.

Should my blood tests be fasting ones?

Thanks everyone. First job is to get some results so I know what was actually tested. The online access to information shows nothing of this either!

Should my blood tests be fasting ones?

2nd test 5 days after the 1st. 3rd test 16 days after the 2nd. I know that they were also checking kidney function in the second, but had a BG reading from it too.

Should my blood tests be fasting ones?

Had my third blood test yesterday. The first, which identified the diabetes I was specifically told no need to fast. The others haven't been mentioned so haven't been fasting beforehand. What's normal? I'm assuming the tests are to determine HbA1c but I haven't been told that either.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I have been told that when I come of the Gliclazide and am only taking Metformin that I won't need to test. I suspect strips will be withdrawn at this point, but lets wait and see. That came from the GP that I'm going to try to avoid seeing as another seemed better aware of newer thinking.

    Newby Type 2

I had that a couple of times when my BG first started to come down. It's stopped now mostly. My BG is coming down slowly but steadily and is generally 7s / 8s over the last few days though I started in a similar place to you. I'm on 40mg Gliclazide and 500mg Metformin at the moment, and I'm to...

    Newby Type 2

Yes I got a meter, though only with enough test strips to last a couple of days, and no information about driving / testing. I got that two days later along with more strips so now I know what I have to do. Just a worry that I was driving two days without knowing and without proper supplies to...

Blood glucose app for smartphone or mac?

Thanks. I'll have a look if there's an iOS version.

    Diagnosed a week before Christmas.

No, I was put on Gliclazide on the spot with Metformin added later. First test was 20, then 6 days later it was 19, but I'd only been on the Gliclazide for one day at that point. I'm assuming they were HbA1c tests but didn't ask because at that point I'd not learned what it was all about. Had...

    Diagnosed a week before Christmas.

Thanks. I'm trying to make sure I have nothin at all with sugar, and avoiding bread potatoes rice and pasta, in spite of one of the GPs telling me that's what I should eat. The other suggested I should be very careful with them and recommended this site.

    Diagnosed a week before Christmas.

Thanks. The reason I wondered about the medication, is I only noticed it after I started on them. Up until three weeks ago I was one of those people who was aways too hot rather than too cold.

Blood glucose app for smartphone or mac?

I've done a bit of a search but not seen anything. At the moment I'm using the my lifestyle section of this website to log my BG levels. It's manual though. I use a couple of meters (one that I get script strips for that I use when I can, the other I pay for when I need the small size /...

    Newby Type 2

Hi. Were you told to monitor your Blood Sugar? It was only at my second GP appointment I was told it was important when on Gliclazide. I got lots of mixed and not useful information when I was diagnosed just three weeks ago, so its a common issue.

    Diagnosed a week before Christmas.

So I've known for a couple of weeks that I'm T2. Still learning lots. Taking 500mg Metformin and 40mg Gliclazide. The advice from the GP surgery is mixed, having seen two GPs plus the diabetic nurse, each of which contradicted the others. Numbers are down from what they were generally staying...
