    Newish diagnosis

Hi Dackba and welcome. Most of us on here find the Desmond course just follows the NHS mantra of "a healthy diet". Unfortunately, what is healthy for a non diabetic isn't for us. There views on carbohydrates would givce most of us here unacceptabley high BG readings. So no confidence from me on...

Has diabetes taken away my sex drive? - Anonymous Question

Re: Has diabetes taken away my sex drive? - Anonymous Questi Worries me a bit that we suddenly have a series of anonymous questions, after years of having none, with one set of questions around "why do us MEN have sex problems", with a simultaneous set of questions around vaginal issues and...

    Dare I ask-saturated fat question?

I'm with xyzzy. Since increasing my fat intake, my cholesterol has gone from 5.5 to 3.8, and I've lost four inches off my waist. Now, I don't know if fat is bad for me or not; what I DO know is that high BGs definitely are, and so I have reduced my carb intake. In doing that, something else has...

    Nope, too slow.

Just remember, it's not the site doing that, it's experienced posters like ladybird who's been around two + years compared to your two + months.

    Dietician discussing drugs?

We don't need your ad. I wouldn't discuss food with most dieticians, let alone drugs

To Drink or not to Drink, that's the ?

There are a lot of carbs in that! A half-pint glass of semi-skimmed alone is about 13 to 14 grams carbs, and the fruit is extra carbs on top. You could almost halve the carbs in the milk by using lactofree milk.

    Here's How To Live To 110 !

Remarkably, KFC aren't the only people in the world to fry chicken. You don't have to put batter (the carb content) on chicken before you fry it.

    MILK and Diabetes

Even if there WAS a degree of truth in "milk helps to prevent diabetes", it doesn't mean it's good for you once you GET diabetes. I have half a small glass of lactofree milk before bed. Lacto free is just over half the carbs of normal milk, but still therefore has some carbs.

    Can a non-type 2 get a hypo?

Understand about re-active hyperglycaemia, but we were talking basics about hypos vs low blood sugar in the normal sense. I know other medical conditions can cause hypos. Mind you, a lot of research talks about "reported" hypos. A lot of new T2s on our forum "report" hypos when their blood sugar...

What do you Eat? throughout a day

Tricky Krazus, because some of us can eat more carbs than others. Also, some can tolerate carbs in the morning but not in the evening, others the other way round. You need to try different things, then test to see if it's ok for you. For example, I have a sandwich for lunch most days in the...

    Can a non-type 2 get a hypo?

This is a well-discussed subject! Hypoglycaemia simply refers to low blood sugar. Anyone can have low blood sugar. It's not something caused by diabetes. There is, however, a major difference between low blood sugar (with dizziness etc) through not eating enough food to match your energy demands...

    Got the good news today

That's ok, and you'll need to make your own mind up, but you're likely to get the same bad advice many of us get from the NHS because they don't know better. In my view, you're better off listening to what people on here say, who have the disease and are getting great results. Follow the NHS...

    PLEASE HELP! DIET NIGHTMARE...

This is difficult, because I think a suggested list of meals won't work. We're all different, and can tolerate different levels of carbs. You need to work out what you can and can't eat. I do see however from your "skinless chicken" comment that you're probably listening to the rubbish NHS...

    Very low A1c (3.7)

Very well done, but just a word of caution. You say "you" checked your A1c. How did you do that? Was that a hoospital or clinic blood test, or something you did yourself? If you did it yourself, are you sure you're measuring A1c, or are you just using a finger prick type meter to get a blood test?

    Natural ways to lower cholesterol

Chalcedony said "In the contemporary world today, all of us are at high risk for heart diseases because of soaring levels of cholesterol in our blood. " As a non diabetic, that may be your main concern. As a diabetic, which is what this forum is about, my main concern regarding heart disease is...

    Got the good news today

By the way, I started off following the dietary advice given to me by the health care professionals, including my doctor. My BGs after eating we're nearly always double figures and sometimes mid teens. It's when I started reading dietary posts on this site that I got to understand carbs. It's by...
