Collecting Prescriptions as part of your exercise

I wonder how much £££s incentive is involved, hence offering a delivery service can be an inticement for people to use the particular pharmacy/ies that offer such a service, therefore making more money for dispensing the prescriptions??? If that's the case, I'm not sure where DCUK is on this...

    Confused, concerned and disappointed

Welcome @adamstclare I seem to remember being told NOT to use any creams etc BETWEEN TOES as damp, warm areas encourage bacteria to grow (which isn't what you want, eh?) Using moisturiser creams etc on the rest of your feet is a very good idea. :)

    Feeling disappointed

@Hedonista Well done for keeping to that level, in spite of it moving by a couple of points. I wonder if the machines the labs use for these tests may have a small discrepancy between them, in the same way our glucometers will have. A blood sample, tested on the same machine twice, but with...

    im new to this

@headshot11, here is a link for the SDCodeFree meter. https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose-monitoring-system-mmoll-or-mgdl/ The test strips seem to be the cheapest available but the meter is very popular. Remember you can claim VAT exemption if you are diabetic :) so...

    First test ever completed.

That would seem excellent, @essexgary It would be good to also know your glucose level immediately before you eat, as well as at 1.5/2 hrs after so you have a comparison as to how much/little your meal pushed you up. It was probably a bit scary, being your first test. Well done :)

    Diabetes alert dogs

Have a read of this thread (current) http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/service-dog-for-diabetics.102973/ However, having a dog is a huge responsibility and can incur expense, ie vets bills for routine vacinations, when ill etc to say nothing of the food, the walking, the cleaning up, the...

    Migraines! :(

Triggered by @Brunneria's post, it occured to me that lack of salt might be a cause. Low carb generally implies not eating processed foods. Processed foods do have a lot of salt in the food which you are maybe not replacing in your current diet. As a consequence, your electrolytes balance...

Low carbing in UK is a nightmare

I've just been out for a meal this evening (with co-workers who also volunteer for a well-known animal charity) for a 'Christmas doo'. I was able to get hold of the Christmas Menu a couple of weeks ago, decided there was little I would eat, being a low carb-er, and so phoned the pub/restaurant...

Libre "Going Low" T2 no meds ? is it a problem?

Hi CherryAA My understanding is that the Libre is generally 'out' when your glucose level is further to the extremes. By that, I mean that as your glucose levels read higher, your meter will rise at a 'normal' level but the Libre will read 'higher', so the higher your levels, the more...

    HbA1c results query

I used to eat a LOT of chocolate but once diagnosed as diabetic (Type 2) I did try to stop/lessen the amount I ate. I've got a VERY sweet tooth, I have to say but, since low carbing, I've actually lost the urge to eat it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to scoff a whole bar of chocolate right now...

Hi VsUK That sounds very promising :) However, I'm wondering what happened to your glucose levels, during the 2.5 hours??? ;)

    Migraines! :(

Could it be that you are eating a lot more cheese, perhaps? I know I'm eating a lot more cheese that I ever used to, since low carbing. Also, I agree with @asparagusp, in that you're needing a bit higher glucose levels until your body adjusts to your glucose levels being steadily lower. I...

    First Meter on its way...

Essexgary, may I suggest that, regardless of the Diabetes Nurse possibly telling you NOT to test, you continue to test. It's your body and only you will suffer the longer term complications, should you be unfortunate to experience them and keeping your glucose levels within certain limits will...

New meter forced on me by my doctors

This seems to be a general thing as my surgery has sent out a similar letter for all diabetic patients with a meter to go on to a different meter. I suspect it's partly to do with getting everyone on the same meter so that the surgery can order the test strips in bulk and negotiate a better...

    Gliclazide???

Hi Chris9R Welcome to the forum In answer to your question re how long for Gliclazide to get into system, I'm not sure but generally the advise is to take these tablets about 30 mins before breakfast and evening meal. Gliclazide will last approx 10 - 12 hours in your system - info from here...

    Abbott freestyle sensor

Hi It's important that the Tubigrip isn't very tight, otherwise you could land yourself in more trouble. When I've used anything to support a suspect-getting-loose sensor, I've used a product called "Tubifast" which is great, allows your skin to breathe, elasticated, very comfortable etc. You...

    Gliclazide???

Hi Chris9R and welcome May I ask what your bg's ran at before you started the Gliclazide? When are you due your next blood test (HbA1c) - presumably in 3 months? Have you been given any advice regarding diet? The advice from the Health Professionals is usually to eat lower GI carbs etc which...

Fasting blood when on shift work?

Hi Peachbelle Welcome to the forum. You'll get a lot of very good advice here so just ask your questions ;) Regarding testing, in spite of what you've been told by your Diabetes Nurse, test as often as you feel necessary. Generally, many/most will test immediately before you begin eating your...

    GLICLAZADE

My understanding is that meter and test strips MUST be prescribed if one is on an insulin-promoting medication, of which Gliclazide is. I've been refused a meter at my surgery until I was prescribed Gliclazide, then Glipizide, and now that I've recently been stopped the Glipizide, the GP has...
