    High blood test result

I think you'll find that the result that relates to 78 will be your HbA1c in mmol/mol measurement. Your results from the Glucometer sounds to be measured in mmol/L, so each is in a different measurement. Check out this link http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html and scroll down for a...

Have you had Vit B12 and Folate checked? Deficiency in B12 could be significant but, most likely, GP will be skeptical about this

I have high blood pressure and my dr wants me to take a statin. HbA1c is 41%.

Gardenknome said "Sometimes I think they get a bonus for every patient they manage to persuade onto a statin." BulkBiker responded "I have a nasty feeling they do..." Yes, I'm sure it was in the newspapers a long time back saying that doctors were getting a financial incentive when prescribing...

how much does metformin actually help ?

I would suggest that this ties in with the Metformin helping cells utilize the insulin where Insulin Resistance is present which is most evident if the 'fasting' glucose levels are high

how much does metformin actually help ?

Hi Freema My understanding is that Metformin helps the insulin in your body get utilised better by the cells, especially if there is Insulin Resistance, which Type 2s tend to have, at least initially. I don't think it actually lowers your glucose levels as such, other than help the insulin...

Bg monitor reliability / how to make sense

I think it's important to note that glucose readings, from the same drop of blood, different test strip, temperature of your fingers, can vary. Also, two different meters/test strips can give differing results It's best to wash your hands before testing, to be sure there is no food stuffs...

    After hypo snack

How about a small plastic sealable container with some dried apricots? I had a small container of apricots and and another of walnuts in my bag for such times, or if I was going to be late for a meal, driving etc. Worked well for me :)

    Breakfast ideas

i currently eat a slice of ham (from the Deli in the supermarket) and a couple of cheese slices, then roll them up together and they're great. I don't get hungry until well after lunch time :) One of these would be very easy to make at home, wrap up and eat at your convenience :)

    Metformin

Are you taking the Metformin with, or after, food? That is usually the advice but, in spite of that, some people do have issues when starting it. As mentioned above, if you can't tolerate it, then you must go back and see your doctor. Good luck

Type 2 low carb diet and metformin

I've always been advised to take Metformin with, or after, food. Since I've been low carb-ing, I've not noticed any ill effects re the Metformin but, I have to admit, I've never had an issue taking them. It seems to defeat the object if you have to take them with carbs!!! :(

    Type 1 Low Iron Low B12 ?

Apparently, another medication for gastric issues, other than the PPIs, is Ranitidine which I've been taking, as well as Metformin, for a number of years. So, if not one, then could be the other!!! I don't particularly want to stop Ranitidine as I get symptoms of gastritis back so I suppose...

    Type 1 Low Iron Low B12 ?

Hi pamK I've read your post with interest. I've recently had annual review and, looking at the blood results which I had printed oiut for me, I noticed that my B12 is low and out of range and my Folate is high and out of range. I've heard/read that there is a link between B12 and Folate and...

I'm under the impression that you need to start your activation with a Reader and then can use your phone app after it's activated. I could well be wrong. I can't even remember what/where I read this or I could have misunderstood, of course. Yes, as already mentioned, once you've used the...

Type 2 Opting Out of Diabetic Check Ups

I agree with Brunneria. Before this thread was started, after my most recent annual review (another thread) I felt I didn't need to be seen by the nurse for Review, although would still expect the usual blood tests to be done. If I had any queries regarding my diabetes, or any indications...

@bridia12 There are lots of members here who reduce their carbs considerably, with excellent success. For further information, I'll tag @daisy1 who will post her information for you. Maybe, print it off and discuss this with your wife to help her understand what you are trying to achieve and...

Blood sugar experiences, Gliclazide, diabetic Type 2

I'm thinking your doctor has prescribed on the basis of your HbA1c but, maybe since then, you have reduced what you were eating? Certainly, I would agree that the medication you are taking is too much for the amount of carbs in your diet. If you are needing to lose weight, the extra carbs that...

Advice, pls, before Appt to see Diabetes Nurse again

Thanks for keeping this in perspective, donnellysdogs ;) It had occured to me that the nurse could have been standing in for someone, of course. It seemed that the nurse was trying to do everything 'right' and, to do that, she was just recording the 'numbers'. There was nothing to suggest...
