    Some nurses are hopeless!

Just been to the surgery and my diabetes nurse advised me that my HbA1c is fine! It’s 63 for heavens sake! It has gone up from 50 in September and I put on weight not a lot but my sugars were going up for no apparent reason which I went for bloods for anyway. I am now getting it under control...

    Length of Hypo

Have you seen the size of the needle in the glucagon kit? I avoid it at all costs! Seriously though make sure you know how and when to use it and make sure someone else does too?

    Help

Take a deep breath and decide what you really want and just tackle 1 thing at once. It does get easier and we all go through things like this. Take care.

Type 1.5 Insulin needs have gone up rapidly

I am having the same problem at the moment and I have no idea what is causing it. I was sent for blood tests for everything they could think of that could be causing it, my mum had rheumatoid arthritis and my sister has lupus. I went for the tests last week and the phlebotomist didn’t get a...

    Low carb Lasagne

When I make it I use sliced courgettes (long slices) and use the mince base and a home made lowish carb cheese sauce. I don’t precook the courgettes and I try to make the base dryish as courgettes are quite watery at times. But I have made a chicken one and it was nice too.

    Byetta And Insulin

I was on byetta and insulin for a while. It helped curb my appetite for a while but gave me horrible sick feelings. I had to take omeprazole as well. I found that after a couple of years the effects wore off and it wasn’t really doing what it was supposed to. I am now on victoza as well as...

    The Return of Hunger.

Some days are just worse than usual. Unfortunately being diabetic has not come with the loss of my sweet tooth! I crave chocolate on occasion and having tried 90% chocolate still doesn’t cut it. What I wouldn’t do for a bar of galaxy!

    Metformin Blues

I had to stop the metformin as well and am just on insulin now. Same problems as you and I too found the slow release metformin worse as well. It didn’t really make a difference to my blood sugars anyway.

    Help sought please

If you have the leaflet in the box still, it usually tells you what to do if you miss a dose. Keep an eye on your levels today too.

    Weight gain

I put weight on initially with insulin but there are two schools of thought some say you do others say the opposite. If you stick with the weight watchers or a low carb diet there is no reason to reverse your great loss. Best of luck

    Bleeding after injecting insulin

I always manage to get some lovely bruises. I can’t use my arms in the summer or I’d look like a battered wife! My husband had to suffer because of it, nurses came to remove his stitches in his legs and they thought he was hitting me because of the bruises and they were kind of rough with him...

Does anyone on high fat low carb diet find they need MORE insulin?

Me too although officially type 2 I’m beginning to think I’ve been type 1 all along. I might have to go and get the tests which I never got in the first place. Because I was overweight and 36 they just said type 2. I was put on tablets the usual suspects, but that was only a year. I have just...

    Coffee -- Good or Bad?

I too love coffee and take two mugs of ground coffee with a little hot milk a day. It doesn’t seem to do any harm to my BS. I occasionally have a 3rd mug though - black with cream.

2 week blood testing for 11yr old son

I would contact the clinic as soon as possible and ask for advice at the very least. It sounds as if your son might be diabetic. Is he thirsty, drinks lots etc? Look after him.

    What's your favourite lunch?

A lot of homemade soups are low carb e.g. broccoli and Stilton or cauliflower and cheddar.

    Update to "Feeling Disheartened" post

Sometimes receptionists don’t realise the importance of these figures to us. I am lucky here in Scotland as we can access “My Diabetes, my Way”. We just register on line and all our diabetic test results are shown on there.

    broken

About 6 years ago I fell down my mums stairs and landed on her stairlift. Needless to say I ended up in hospital. I had broken ribs (lovely bruises) dislocated a finger, (ouch) and cracked my collar bone. It was fun. The breaks healed in about 8 weeks which is about normal for most people non...
