    GP has changed the rules

I recently had a blood test, so I had a look on my medical history online in Patient Access to look at previous results, only to find all my records were missing. That is to say, my Medical History on Patient Access had been stripped. Even subheadings have been removed - problems, test results...

    Asian Flu

Sorry, I wasn't around in 1918, but I experienced the Asian Flu of 1957 first-hand. My point is that life was simpler then and we just got on with it.

    Asian Flu

I was thinking about the extent to which our lives have changed with the Covid-19 pandemic, when I thought back to when I had Asian Flu. I checked, and this was in 1957, when I was 14 years old. At the time, pretty well everyone got it and it was pretty bad, meaning you felt terrible, with...

    Diabetes and Citalopram??

Hi. I've been on Escitalopram for about 10 years and tolerate it well. Escitalopram is the chiral form of Citalopram, so it is the same chemical, but a different shaped molecule. It is often prescribed for depression where anxiety is marked. If you find it difficult to persist with...

Type 2 Diabetes, Anti Depressants and Exhaustion

That is a very quick withdrawal from an antidepressant! I have been on loads of different ones over the last 30 years and have always come off them over about a month. It's a bit late now to restart, so I think you will have to bite the bullet. At least you will know what to blame! Good luck...

    Type 2 Coffee and...?

It depends on which coffee shop, but some sell small bags of plain nuts that shouldn't do too much harm. It's always nice to have a little something with the coffee.

How to know if food is keto

This is what I follow. If you apply this formula to any food you eat, then you will be OK. But it should probably be used on the total over the whole day, which gives you some leeway. My personal keto ratio is 2.5.

Any type 2 severely insulin resistant people here?

Thanks @ert, just calculated mine as 1.96 from your formula, which I would say was about right, ie just over, but not severe.

    Living with non diabetic

My wife is non-diabetic and can eat pretty well anything she likes, including cake, chocs, bread and potatoes, which are completely out for me. I have no breakfast and my wife has porridge. For lunch, she typically has smoked salmon and watercress with toast, while I have a keto salad. For...

Kitchen cleaning and Keto - dealing with the fat

You get a much better lather with soapy water when it is softened. This helps the fat into suspension and easier to clear.

Kitchen cleaning and Keto - dealing with the fat

We don't get this problem, possibly because I eat/drink all the surplus fat! Seriously though, have you thought about a water softener?

    Cholesterol and Statins

Yes, very poor that they didn't spell out the direction of the association in each case.

    Statins

The problems with this are that triglycerides are constantly varying, so a single measurement at a particular time of day is useless; and that triglycerides are often not included in blood test results. For comparative purposes, TC/HDL is a better indicator of triglyceride levels, a result < 3.5...

    LDL good for you!

Zoe Harcombe reviewed this paper today. https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/12/e028638 The conclusions of the paper are that high LDL cholesterol is beneficial for survival of heart attacks, heart failure, cancer and other major causes of death. The higher your LDL, the better your chances, just...

    Flu and diabetes

I recently had a virus that included a sore throat (as well as the usual flu-like symptoms). Reluctant to use sugar-containing medication, I used Ultra Chloraseptic with good results, so I can recommend that. One thing I did notice was that my fasting bs was elevated by about 1 mmol/l for the...

    Libre question

In Zoe Harcombe's blog this week, she commented on her and her husband's use of a Libre cgm that they each had on trial for 2 weeks. She had several interesting insights on her discoveries and concluded that every UK citizen should have a loan of a Libre for 4 weeks to discover their...
