Another reason to watch those carbs...

Ok guys - you can put your swords away now. Can we please just talk about the bread thread and not about personal differences and misunderstandings? :) I don't want this important subject to die from 'last word syndrome'. I am the Coroner, and the inquest is well and truly over....... Thank...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

The only connection with Ezekiel was the fact that several different types of grain were used to make the bread. Why Ezekiel was required to make the bread was prophetic and does not bear any relevance to what is made today. However, the fact that the grains are soaked prior to making the...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

Thank Ka-Mon. I had come across Jim Lahey's recipe but it was interesting to watch him make it. I think I would prefer to mix the yeast into the water and let it dissolve before adding it to the mix as it would tend to prevent those big holes that were apparent in his bread because the yeast...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

Hi Clearviews - you don't necessarily have to make or buy sourdough bread - even yeasted bread is ok - BUT it has to have had a long proving time. Not even commercially-made sourdough has necessarily had a long prove. It's the long and overnight proving that is the key. It HAS to prove for a...

Unfortunately Viv, unless you can afford to go to an 'artisan' bread shop that is more likely to make the bread in the traditional way with the long proving time, then even wholemeal bread is left to rise for too short a time to convert properly which doesn't make it actually that much better...

Another reason to watch those carbs...

This week I have done a bit of an experiment. Hub and I are both gluten intolerant. I dumped it when my digestion collapsed, and found that the raging diarrhoea and awful stomach pain went away. My restless legs and burning feet also went too. No more IBS or RLS. :D Over the past three...

re reversal of type 2 diabetes

Ps. When my digestion virtually collapsed and I could hardly eat anything, I probably wasn't able to get through much more than around 600 calories a day for a few months. I lost weight - but although my sugar levels came down finally into normal range, I still had to take insulin and...

re reversal of type 2 diabetes

I actually feel that a lot of the reasons we are seeing so much diabetes is because we no longer eat in season. If you analyze when fruit and vegetables are avaiable in season and what types, it becomes apparent that the higher fructose fruits and the starchy carb veg is usally available at the...

Question to members about contributions from Professionals

Re: Question to members about contributions from Professiona Hmm. It is a tricky one. Personally, as I have little or no faith in the Medical profession (they themselves managed to beat that our of me over the years) I don't necessarily believe everything that comes from a 'professional'...

    Statins

We have a friend who completely lost his memory due to statins - didn't even know his family! His memory did come back to a certain extent eventually but he is not the same man he was before - he also suffers with awful joint pain. Because he has implicit faith in his GP he is still on...

    Atkins and Potassium supplements

I only mentioned Celtic Sea salt because it is fairly widely available and is relatively cheap (depending on what brand you buy). I get Danival 'Sel Marin' from the Brittany coast from my local health shop and it is only just over £2 for a kilo bag. As long as the salt is 'complete' and hasn't...

    Atkins and Potassium supplements

What brought my BP back down to normal wasn't lowering my salt intake, but dumping the carbs. Within a few weeks I was able to come off, and dump the BP tablets. I consume around a teaspoonful of salt every day (but don't get any from any other source) and I believe it has been a considerable...

    High BS and exercise

Could it be though that if an individual is insulin resistant, although their body is pushing out glucose to fuel the muscles, the muscles can't use it? Perhaps in that case they are actually burning fat instead and the glucose is not achieving anything and is just floating around in the...

    High BS and exercise

Personally, I think that the body would only turn to glucose for its fuel if it is in glucose-burning mode because it would have to change over to fat-burning and that can take some time to achieve. Because I am in fat-burning mode my body automatically, and immediately turns to fat for its...

    High BS and exercise

Hi Daisy. I have two tentative ideas on this. One possibility is that perhaps when your blood sugar drops below a certain level your liver may be doing a 'dump' as you exercise to try and bring it back up. (Similar thing happens overnight with some people and results in the 'dawn phenomenon')...

    Cold

I find that my temperature is a lot lower now than it was when I was eating carbs. Particularly dumping gluten foods (processed wheat) made a big difference. I don't get the burning hot feet any more either that I had to stick out of the bed every night!! I did actually have some shivering...

How do you do a low carb/low fat diet

Well absolutely. How can you kick a ball at the goal when the goal posts keep moving..... I know a lot of people put a lot of faith in Science and won't believe anything unless it has a scientific backup attached to it but I am afraid that I am a Science heretic. When it comes to scientific...
