How long dose meds stay in system once stopped

I stopped my gliclazide last month and my BG readings have shot up. I'm hoping its a 'rebound high' and starts to level off and perhaps fall in a week or so. My gliclazide was first reduced by 50% and I managed to keep BG within limits although there was an initial rise.

Well done - that was fast!!

does the fruit Juice not raise the blood sugar ?

I find it quite surprising and counter-intuitive.

    Glibenclamide

Your morning BG levels are good. But if you are taking a sulphonylurea and not eating later in the day you may well be experiencing hypoglycemia. Test when you feel the cold sweats to see if your BG is low and if it is, eat something with a highish sugar/glucose. And, if you find that your lack...

    Blood Glucose Levels

Hi and welcome @mazza 2 ! It is quite hard and confusing after initial diagnosis and will take you a few weeks at least to learn just what you can eat without pushing up your BG. You only mentioned your dinner readings - are you also testing at other times too? You really should as it will help...

    Travel Insurance Diabetes Premiums

Best quote we had this year was from HolidaySafe, next best was EHICplus. These were for an annual EU only policy for two over 70s, one with T2D plus CVD.

Off meds but BG is rising should I worry?

Thanks Jim! I've not had any apart from one hypo with Gliclazide and that was a couple of years ago after a long flight and lack of food. My last chat with my GP when she stopped my GP she said if my BG rose there were other meds she'd try.

Bay leaves improve glucose levels & lipids in T2D

We just pick a few fresh, chuck them in the pot and pick them out when serving. For anyone wishing to try a bay tree is easily grown in a pot or tub and will keep you going in leaves all year round.

Off meds but BG is rising should I worry?

Very many thanks to ALL who have replied. I now feel very much better informed and confident as to the way forward. The Sheffield info link was particularly interesting @Dark Horse - thanks!

Off meds but BG is rising should I worry?

Thanks @hankjam . My diet is pretty much the same LCHF that I've maintained for the past couple of years - can't cut carbs much more than I do already! I've an interim HbA1c test due in mid April so would like to hang off seeing my GP until then unless my own BG tests show BG continuing to rise...

Off meds but BG is rising should I worry?

Over the past year my HbA1c improved and in September my GP reduced my Gliclazide by 50% and then last month, after discussion with me decided to stop medication. When back in September the dose was reduced my own BG readings showed a rise before falling and now I'm off meds completely my BG is...

    Curly kale "mistake"

Season with a little salt after baking. You can also add a sprinkle of paprika to give little more zing.

    Curly kale "mistake"

We make crispy kale in the oven and it really does add an extra dimension to the kale. We toss it in olive oil, put it on a baking tray and cook @ about 120C for 15 minutes, turn it and cook for another 15 minutes. Time and temperature are a bit seat of the pants - taste it and see is the best...

Apple cider vinegar ? Bitter gourd

As far as honey goes it is very high in carbs/sugar at 76.5/100g, though better than white sugar at 105/100g, the GL is also lower. I certainly wouldn't use it as spread as it would push up my BG quite a bit, but we do sometimes use it in very small quantities when cooking just to add a little...

    Pre-diabetic and under weight

Putting ON weight is probably harder than shedding it. I'm T2 and a thin T2. I lost a lot of weight before diagnosis - in fact it was my loss of weight that revealed my diabetes. Your friend shouldn't worry about high fat foods, there's lots of research now that shows that fat intake doesn't put...

    Puddings?

Just bought an ice cream maker and have been making no-sugar, low carb ice cream. Absolutely brilliant and so many different flavours to experiment with. Drizzle a bit of 85% cocoa choc on top and is just amazing.

    My kidnappers note to wife.

" Keeps telling us to eat 'real food' and chuck the ready-meals that Big Al gets from round the corner and is refusing anything that has more than a sniff of carbohydates. Seems like we've kidnapped a bloody rabbit. Was a waste of time and effort snatching him, he's doing our heads in. We'll...

    Cholesterol and diabetes

A very interesting article Bluetit. Thanks for that link. I stopped stenols/stanols when I first, by chance, discovered the NICE recommendations as I was and am taking statins. I'll have a chat with my GP and see what she thinks given the final paragraph of the BMJ article - " The fact that the...
