    Need guidance for my Daughter

As others have said, it would be useful for us to have more information. However, it is telling that doctors blame it on her diabetes and I'm furious. What I've learned the hard way is "until you try everything, you don't know what might have saved you." I've tried, and still use, a CGM...

    Fiasp Duration

If your sugar has a sharp rise immediately after eating, then slowly comes back down over several hours, this means your digestion acts faster than your insulin but you are probably on the right dosage. A faster insulin might be better matched to your digestion. OTOH if your sugar has a more...

    Eye test

Just think about what makes sense in your situation. If it is not a common occurrence and you intend to get your BGs under better control then I wouldn't bother seeing the optometrist right now. However, if your BGs are like this regularly, you can get a stronger prescription for such periods...

    Newly Diagnosed ‘n

You need to follow the advice of your diabetes team. A great book to get is called "Think Like a Pancreas". Your team will probably help you work out a target range, which is a range that you try not to go below and try not to go above. This should begin reasonably high and slowly come down as...

    Reducing insulin to lose weight..

I wouldn't worry about the insulin. Once you get to low carb it kind of bottoms out because protein picks up the slack. IMO just keep up the diet, how long have you been doing it? Maybe try to get into ketosis. Or throw in some longer fasts. By my calculations you are actually fasting 17 hours...

    Hobbies and Interests

Unfortunately brittle diabetes has killed all of those hobbies which involve exercise. So I mostly make retro computer games, play computer games made before 1995, do other freakishly difficult computer-related things, enjoy the natural vistas around Sydney's coast and spend time philosophising...

Type 1 Hypo treatment without wheat

I think keto does reduce my hypo symptoms (mostly weird ###%ing subjective experiences that are probably focal seizures) however I'm not confident because I simply do not allow myself to go hypo. Before keto, a hypo could render me non-functional for a week so it's just not worth the risk. That...

Type 1 Hypo treatment without wheat

Make sure you take into account that fruit juice is full of sugar. (In fact it's 50% sucrose which is the main thing in sugar cane. But fructose and glucose feed gut bacteria too.) When I was on an autoimmune diet, I sucked on honey without too much swallowing. But at the end of the day, a hypo...

    uni, diabetes and concentration

You are the sum total of a lot of things. One of them is your blood sugar. It is part of who you are. You have to accept that accept that it will change your marks, your career, your relationships. (Definitely for the better, at times.) You should definitely notify your uni that you need...

Ketonauts, how forgiving are your meal doses?

Whoops I got that backwards! More insulin = sugar drop lol. I use syringes and do half-unit dosing. Actually it's already better than any other diet I've tried. I normally aim for around 7 (due to other health conditions) but since using carbs for hypos will screw up ketosis I'm aiming for 9...

Ketonauts, how forgiving are your meal doses?

I've been in ketosis for nearly three weeks (ketones over 1.5) and I'm not finding dosing to be as forgiving as I expected. My mealtimes NovoRapid doses are about 3 or 4 units but it seems that being too low by 1 unit can mean a drop of 5mmol/L and too high by 1 unit can mean a rise of 5mmol/L...

Living with my type 1 husband’s mood swings

When I have mood shifts I feel that my perspective is fair and the people around me are not respecting me or not caring about me. It took a very long time for me to start seeing this from an objective perspective and taking that on board when I was in that state. It's very threatening when...

Happier than happy but it’s been a long road [emoji4]

Wow Conniecar. I've had T1D for 9 years and developed epilepsy 2 years later. It took 5 and a half years to get diagnosed. Epilepsy destroyed my life—I couldn't work, my partner became my carer... the medical system totally failed me and eventually I worked it out for myself. Now my life is...

Yes, I can feel cold during a hypo. I used to get social anxiety also.

    Pump basal rate limits

Just a warning, a temp basal (e.g. 50% reduction) will NOT reduce your basal any further, at least with the pumps I've used.

    Hungry

I found it was actually to fast altogether than start keto. I did a 24-hour fast back when I was eating a "normal" diet and then a 5-day fast after I had cut carbs (but not keto). After a fast I had less problems with hunger.
