Eating nuts daily could help control type 2 diabetes

You are right - highly predictable that T2s should achieve improved BGs by replacing carbs with nuts. When will th dietitians & the DUKs use similar common sense to advise us on our diet? But note: Now I must make a fresh batch of my nut-cake-bread.

    Omg summer gone... Spiders!,,,

Enjoy Flanders & Swann "Spider in the Bath" at 7:40. I have fought a Grizzly Bear, Tracked a Cobra to its lair, Killed a Crocodile who dared to cross my path, But the thing I really dread When I've just got out of bed Is to find that there's a Spider in the bath. I've no fear of Wasps or Bees...

Low carb diet, tired, hungry, weight not moving

Re: low carb diet, tired , hungry , weight not moving I hate to disagree with everything we are told about diet, particularly FAT. Fat is sustaining, provides double the energy of carbs (wt for wt) doesn't raise blood sugar, & doesn't make you fat. I've been on a low carb, high fat diet for 5...

An experiment – Almond porridge versus cereal

    I did the same experiment with 40 g oat porridge with readings every hour: Oat porridge: 300+ Kcal fasting - 6.6 1 hour - 13-7 2 hours - 9.1 3 hours - 4.5 4 hours - 4.6 Seriously hungry mid-morning Fruit & Fibre: 500 Kcal fasting - 5.7 1 hour - 14.3 2 hours - 5.1 3 hours - 4.1 4 hours - 4.7...

Low carb diet, tired, hungry, weight not moving

Re: low carb diet, tired , hungry , weight not moving If you want a quick, easy & sustaining b'fast, try nut porridge: ground almonds, coconut flour (or desiccated), milled flax seed, add flavour with cinnamon, cardamom, low cal drinking choc, etc .... 4 - 6 d'spoons mixed with boiling water...

    background retinopathy

Maintain the best BG control you can - preferably HbA1c below 6.5%. Background retinopathy was observed 10 years ago & year after year. I've got better control now (low carb diet) & am clear of retinopathy.

Any gluten free and low carb recipes?

Re: Any gluten free and low carb recipes? NUTS ! While so far as I know, I am not gluten intolerant, my low carb diet transformed my health. These recipes are gluten free & low carb. I buy coconut flour for about £4 per Kg - TRS coconut powder. It's a fine flour, not fine dessicated. My...

Not happy with this diabetes scenario

I would endorse the DAFNE course suggestion - 10% is dangerously high. 10 years ago, I had early signs of retinopathy & other complications. Now, after 5 years of low carb I'm free of complications & no sign of retinopathy. I had disabling muscle cramps 5 years ago - and a change of diet...

    Scary Muscle Cramps!

I had disabling muscle cramps 5 years ago - and a change of diet changed my life to such an extent that I play tennis & table tennis to club standard - at 74. . I very rarely get cramps, but if I do, it's because my BG is increasing towards 7. I have to keep the average & the HbA1c below 6.5...

    Breakfast Ideas?

Nuts to you :) I have a porridge made from mixed nut powders (ground almonds, coconut flour, milled flax). If I want variety I add low cal choc drink, or fruit. My nut cake-bread makes a good base for cheese on "toast" - I don't toast it, just m-wave the cheese for a minute to melt it.

    Any musicians about??

Blackbirds have been quieter this year, & I haven't had the opportunity for my usual duel. They whistle a few bars & wait for a response to their challenge. When I whistle in reply, they respond to me, & we can keep it up for a few minutes.

4 Hypos in one day - We just keep shovelling Carbs

I'm T2 & 74 y-o so my advice is questionable BUT diabetics can't digest carbs properly, - they tend to raise blood glucose, so you inject insulin to bring the BG down again, get a hypo & eat more carbs - you're seeing a trampoline effect. IMO you need to eat sustaining food - proteins & fats...

    Any musicians about??

My keyboard playing (organ) is adequate for hymn singing; My voice for choral singing (bass), community centre choir & leading worship; I use a harmonium for Indian Christian songs - like the one featured briefly on this evening's "Songs of Praise"; I occasionally sing at open mike sessions -...

    Coconut flour

Yes - Sorry - I make mine 3 times a week. Without the sugar things do go mouldy. I've added a warning to the recipe on p.1. As I use for all sorts of things, it doesn't have time to go off.
