    Stalled...

Not a control freak normally, but I wonder if I am getting a little too obsessed. It may be time to treat myself to a small portion of posh chips with my steak this weekend! :-)

    Stalled...

Trying very hard not to get too despondent. I think diabetes is bringing out the control freak in me! Ideally I'd like the running average to be around 5.5. Up until this hiccup my running average had come down to 5.9. The warm weather is a possibility - I got a 7.7 after walking a couple of...

    Stalled...

After a few satisfying weeks of seeing my BS numbers falling to low 6s, a smattering of 5s and a couple of high 4s, they now seem to be stuck in the 6s. This has been going on for a couple of days. I'm feeling very disappointed as I'm working so hard changing my diet to LCHF and walk briskly up...

    Feeling really nervous

Ooh, I'd forgotten about that, and I've only had mine for a few weeks! You still may not need to set the beep. Try putting in a test strip anyway; if you get a pic of the test strip on the screen, you should be good to go. If not, set the beep first.

    Hard to believe!!!!

@bulkbiker and Heretic1 - you've both got me thinking... yep, I put on even more weight when I quit smoking (was classified as 'obese' even before that) and a few months later, hey presto, diabetes!

    Bad nights

Hi David, That sounds like a hypo to me. As I'm T2 on diet and exercise only, I have never experienced a hypo, but my husband (also T2 diabetic and on medication) gets them from time to time. He usually counteracts it by swigging down some full-sugar cola and then having a carby snack. There...

    Hard to believe!!!!

I can see both sides of the story. I quit cigarettes in April and took up vaping instead. Then the diabetes diagnosis came in August. And yes, one of the first questions was "do you smoke?" and I was glad that I didn't (did not fess up to the vaping though!) because I knew that would have become...

    Feeling really nervous

Hi Coby, I have one of these meters too. Although the instruction book looks a little scary, you can start testing your glucose straightaway without setting up the time, etc. So long as you record your glucose scores and the time it was taken in the little book provided, you'll be fine. There...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday's was rather fab and resulted in some excellent BS results. Breakfast: Pret a Manger egg, salmon and spinach pot, washed down with a flat white. Lunch: forgot my packed lunch, but ate 20 almonds. Dinner: out with friends at a Thai restaurant. Deep-fried squid to start, prawn red...

    LCHF bad for cholesterol/heart disease?

I've only been on LCHF for a few weeks. Here's what I've noticed: I've lost a stone in weight; my BG readings are improving; my blood pressure is lower; I have bags of energy. Don't know about my cholesterol yet but I guess I'll find out after my next Hba1c in November. I'm hoping that will be...

    Statins are back in favour

I read both the news item and the report with a cynical laugh. Everyone I know who's on statins tells me how rubbish they feel on them, which is why I have refused them both times the doctor offered them to me.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

6.5. And this morning the scales told me I'd lost a stone! I want to double-check on another set of scales though.

Please can we have a forum section on reactive hypoglycaemia?

Not yet, bulkbiker, but I will.

Please can we have a forum section on reactive hypoglycaemia?

Why, thank you! I do worry about the boredom aspect, so I'm always trying new combinations of things and allow myself the very occasional treat and walk a little further the following day. And I'm looking forward to making some delicious soups, stews, curries and roasts!

Please can we have a forum section on reactive hypoglycaemia?

Nosher, thanks for your kind offer. I've cut out all grains, almost all fruit except for those at the lowest end of the carb scale and starchy veg. All that ends up on my plate are leafy veg, brassicas, asparagus, eggs, meat, fish, berries (sparingly), cheese and nuts. I'm still using cow's...

Please can we have a forum section on reactive hypoglycaemia?

Well, since T2 diagnosis I have been on a LCHF diet and I walk as much as I can every day. My BS numbers are coming down and I feel better than I have done for many years. Not sure how much weight I've lost as my scales at home are useless, but my clothes are getting loose!
