    Healing Of Type 1 Diabetes

Maybe it never was T1 diabetes. Doctors often jump to the T1 conclusion with kids. Was the initial diagnosis confirmed with antibody tests? Probably not, because of age. Going low after eating sounds like reactive hypoglycemia. Have you been checked out for MODY? Insulinoma is another possibility.

For T2 Dexcom users , what is the Max bg after food and A1C

Normal wouldn't go much over 130, regardless of what has been eaten.

    Freestyle Libre blood glucose testing

A dose based on the amount of carbs will only have the desired effect if blood glucose in the target range before the meal. People test before meals to see if an extra correction bolus is required or whether dosage should be reduced because blood glucose is below the target level. Pre-meal...

    How low carb to go

Just reducing carbs makes bolusing easier, and it doesn't have to be very low carb for that. Simply avoiding stuff like cereal and reducing portion size of things like rice or potatoes helps. To get the full benefits of low-carb eating, one has to go into ketosis. It means that the body is using...

Have diabetics been thrown to the wolves during the COVID-19 pandemic?

That COVID age concept is very shaky. After reading the article, I still don't get it. It is an attempt to load risk factors in a simple summative way. Life is never that simple. The so called COVID age number has no real significance. The loading Ellie referred to comes from insurance tables...

Have diabetics been thrown to the wolves during the COVID-19 pandemic?

We need to be careful to avoid confusing association and cause here. The fact that lots of people who have died from COVID had diabetes does not mean that all diabetics have increased risk of dying in this way. Only those who also have the predisposing underlying conditions, like age, heart...

    Am I being irresponsible?!?

Your preferance for sweet things has been conditioned over the years. Keeping them that way makes life more difficult than it needs to be. It doesn't have to be that way, but you will have to work at it. Retraining the body to get more energy from fat pays off in the long term.

    What should I do?

As you think you got less than the required amount, no problem. You will just wake up tomorrow higher than usual and a correction bolus will fix it. Getting more than the required dose can be a bigger problem.

    Freestyle Libre/Apple Glucowatch

Have you enquired about when the Libre 3 will become available? Apparently it has already been approved in Europe. No scanning, with readings being sent to the phone app via bluetooth. The app will do alarms too, so no need for extra gadgets. The Libre 3 has been approved for controlling insulin...

Trying, really trying with my ratios.

Your problem is most likely with basal. Have you tested your basal, as suggested in the last thread? When do you inject your 18 units of Lantus? If it is at night, shifting it, or part of it, to the morning may help. Switching to Levemir may also help. Using a pump gives the most control over...

    Glucose level of 31.4

High blood glucose is not dangerous if it has been caused only by eating lots of carbohydrate. It becomes dangerous if it is caused by lack of insulin, as this can lead to ketoacidosis. As long as your son keeps the insulin supply going, he should be ok in the short term. Improving his control...

    Split bolus for most foods?

You can also use Actrapid for low-carb meals. It acts over 8 hours. I use Actrapid for most meal boluses and only use Novorapid if I am eating lots of carbs.

    Insulin on the Bernstein Method

Actrapid is Regular insulin made by Novo. A of T2s still use it. Should be easily available. The main difference is acting over 8 hours, which is more suitable when eating ketogenically. I also find Actrapid useful for filling the basal gap wwith using Lantus.

Passing out, newly diagnosed type 1

Be aware that dropping low (below 3.5) at night causes a rebound effect with high blood glucose the next morning. Getting and keeping it down in .he target range often requires large amounts of correction bolus insulin. It contributes to that so-called roller coaster effect. Perhaps the first...

    Antibody results

GAD is usually in the 100s by the time of diagnosis. Could be that it was caught very early. Sounds like she doesn't need basal. Just some bolus with carby meals. Long may it last. Time will tell what way it goes and how it needs to be treated.

    Am I being irresponsible?!?

No, you are not being irresponsible. Just short sighted. Be aware that you are still in your honeymoon, making a lot of your own insulin. The amount of insulin you have to inject will continue to increase as beta cells die off and matching insulin action with glycemic effect of food will become...

    Morning Figures -

The blood glucose you see in the morning comes from your liver. You don't need to have eaten anything. Eating keto retrains the body to use fat instead of glucose for energy and should reduce the DP effect too. But you would need to at least reduce the gliclazide as it could cause a hypo...

    Morning Figures -

There are basically three options. You could try a ketogenic diet, other T2 medications or go back on insulin. Don't expect the chromium, or any other supplement, to make much difference.

    HbA1c Type 2

Ozempic increases the production of insulin after eating. So lower blood glucose after eating and better HBA1c. It also delays stomach emptying and suppresses appetite. It seems to reduce heart and kidney disease risk too.
