    Type 2 new diagnosis: confused??

Hi and welcome. Don't forget it's not just sugar that needs to be kept down as sugar is just another carb so watch all your carbs. Do get yourself added to your surgeries online system so you can access your test results. You can then see what all your test results are and whether your HBa1C...

    Any advice please

Hi. First you should not be on twice-a-day insulin as a T1 but Basal/Bolus. See NICE diabetes guidelines for T1. Talk to your GP about changing the insulin regime to be inline with NICE as it will give you better control. Why are you using test strips as well as the Libre 2? It's your choice but...

    Seeking Medication Advice

Hi. At your next blood test ask for a full lips breakdown. I would suggest stopping the statins a for a day or so before so you get a result without meds which will help decide about the statins; otherwise you can't make a decision. Do get yourself access to the surgeries online system at the...

    Worried

Hi. It's not easy getting a C-Peptide and Gad test done privately. Medichecks used to do them but not any longer. My local Spire is now offering C-Peptide tests with a Dr consulting. You could insist on getting your GP to refer you to the Diabetes Clinic which my DN willingly did but the clinic...

    Low carb high fat

You can blame the food industry lobby; very powerful and they love profitable Carbs

    Hello - Type 1 Newbie

Hi. You have obviously done a lot of research already which is good. To roughly get the Basal right you need to have several hours without eating and see whether your BS goes up or down. It's not quite so easy with a split dose but you will find over time that you will inject different amounts...

    glicazide

That's got be the wrong approach. You should not be increasing Carbs to solve that problem. It's BS you need to measure not Ketones unless your BS is very high. Having ketones is normal if you are in ketosis and not dangerous unless your BS is high as well which is ketoacidosis. It may be your...

    Low carb high fat

Great news. You have found the secret we all know. What a pity most people think Low-Fat High carb is the right approach.

    Some help please

Hi. It sounds very likely that you could be T1/LADA. You need to ask for a C-Peptide and GAD test. Your surgery should be following the NICE diabetes pathway (Google it) and at your HBA1C level you should be on further medication. I had to suggest to my ignorant diabetes GP that he started me on...

New here - banana question etc.

Bananas are a No-No. Weetabix aren't too bad as long as it's only one and not every day. Have a look at the Total carbs on the packaging. Have eggs and bacon instead if you can.

    Insulin and car insurance

It's unusual for a car insurer to not record medical conditions. My policy has my diabetes listed. I would give them another call to check and ask for it to be noted in their records to avoid any dispute following an accident.

    Type 2 Pancreatic Parasites

It's good to hear your endos understood. I had a viral infection shortly before my diagnosis and believe that was the cause of my dead beta cells. I don't believe it is common knowledge BTW. Normally T1 is said to be an auto-immune disease which may be the main cause in childhood.

    Type 2 - advice needed

Hi. Yes it's high but a low-carb diet should help get it down and any excess weight if you have any

    Type 2 Pancreatic Parasites

Hi. Don't forget that viruses can also damage the pancreas which many medics don't realise.

Eating junk food and no sugar drinks

If you do choose to have at least some cereals look at the packing for Total carbs. I think you will find Weetabix is not too bad. I sometimes have just one if staying away but most of the time I have eggs and bacon. No-added sugar muesli isn't too bad but not a bowl full.

    Dietabetic

Hi and welcome to the club of many. The best diet is usually the most important thing about controlling diabetes and that means keeping the carbs that you eat at a sensibly low level. Try to focus on proteins, fats, veg and non-tropical fruit rather than too much bread, pasta, potatoes etc.

    Gliclazide

Hi. As another poster said, Glic works in a very different way from Met. It stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin and this lasts up to 10 hours so timing isn't that critical. 40mg is the lowest dose you can get. I suspect it's marginal whether you need any at all. If you can keep the...

Time to be honest with myself

Hi. Look for Total carbs on the back of food packaging and keep it down. Avoid tortilla or bread or keep the quantity down. That BP is slightly high but it should go down a bit with exercise and weight reduction.

Is it ever to late ?

The max is 2000mg. Sadly doubling it up to 2000mg won't have doubled the e. This is true of many meds.
