Hi all

My GP called today with the results of my recent blood test. I was told my results were 72, I take it this isnt a good result as my GP put my metformin up. However I'm struggling to find information around this 72 level. How bad is it? I'm not sure what I need to do other than take the metformin as discussed. Does anyone have any advice?

72mmol/mol or 8.7% equates to an expected average circulating blood glucose of 11mmol/L or 200mg/dL.

Yes it is high but we've seen a lot higher around these parts and people have made a partial or even full recovery, so all is not lost. Metformin is decent but on its own it's unlikely to put much of a dent in your diabetes. Assuming you are indeed type 2, see the link in my signature if you'd like a brief overview on how you might adjust your diet to help further. Courtesy of @JoKalsbeek.

I used this chart when i got started 4 months ago to help out work out where i am and where i need to get back down to

I was at a Hba1c of 91 - but I had it beaten in 6 months.
That was over 4 years ago now, and I still eat a low carb diet as I feel so well on it - and it is the only way I can lose weight.
I did too many low calorie low fat diets and my metabolism was wrecked.
The advice to cut back on all those so called healthy carbs might seem crazy but if, as it seems, you are a type 2 diabetic it could make such a difference.
