    Prioritising HbA1c?

Ok, thanks. I’ll give it a go every now and then, like you say to avoid nasty surprises. I just did it tonight, a couple of hours after my evening meal (which was almost exclusively protein!) and it was 5.2

    Prioritising HbA1c?

So I shouldn’t assume that because all other factors are relatively constant, that my T2 progression will be constant?

    Prioritising HbA1c?

Quick question - I don’t bother testing my BG any more and haven’t done for months. My HbA1c is down to 37 (from 123 at diagnosis 14 months ago). I’m pretty settled in my routines of diet and exercise. I’m off medication and have been for about six months now. I feel like I’m all about the...

What are you doing now and humorous banter.

Prepping for the missus’ early train to London tomorrow and both of us listening / sometimes working out to Carl Cox and Sasha and Digweed so we must be feeling sentimental....

T2s: Calf/leg muscle loss after diagnosis?

I was diagnosed T2 after having a DVT in my calf / thigh. I struggle to run on that leg now, preferring cycling. When I run I get pain in that leg which I think can only be due to damaged blood vessels. I’ve never really tried to unpick whether the T2 caused the DVT or contributed or what. So...

    Regular moderate exercise log

10k steps yesterday in an odd day in which I spent a lot of time as a visitor in hospital so basically sitting down. Started the day with 8am circuit training class and 10am boxercise though. Sunday will be more sedate, will walk to the gym soon then 20km stationary bike and a kb routine. Then...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

Hi Sugar! Thanks for your thoughtful enquiries. I’ve struggled to get a handle on quite what has gone on this year. And many of your suggestions are in fact what I’ve tried myself. I might follow up on the hormone tests though. But I’d like to be completely clear about a few things (for the...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

Just for the sake of completeness I’ll just record here that I got my Cholesterol results back, 4.9 total, 1.8 HDL, 3.1 non HDL. So I dodge statins too, which is good. I’m glad my HCPs gave me the chance to experiment with lifestyle changes before putting me on the full drug pathway, so by diet...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

I haven’t used the meter for ages. I’ll experiment and get back to you. I suspect that it’ll confirm I’m not “cured” - you’re suggesting I test two hours after carbs, yes? I think if I eat “a lot” of carbs at a sitting (that constitutes maybe 40g max for me) then I would still have a high...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

Thanks for the identification Jo! I’m all about the HbA1c too. The other stuff is “nice to have” in comparison. When I first came here I thought the key was going to be losing abdominal fat to give me any chance of achieving “remission” and I was concerned that I didn’t have a great deal to...

Truth be told jo, I got down to 80kg but drifted back to 84 where I’ve been for months. This seems to be my maintenance weight!

Many thanks everyone for the input, sorry I drifted away without acknowledging! I did read and inwardly digest. My HbA1c of 123 thirteen months ago is now 37. I’ve been off Metformin for four months and my HbA1c has continued to fall. Still got a BMI of more than 25 but have swapped a lot of...

Newsly diagnosed, with a monstrous Hba1c

Hi bud I was diagnosed September 17 with an HbA1c of 123 and glucose of 17. No symptoms, picked up in a blood test for something else. Four months ago I came off Metformin with an HbA1c of 42. This week I had an HbA1c of 37, free of drugs. I train every day and keep carbs about 100g. BMI of...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

This is where I got confused Alexandra. I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose, so wondered if people who were carrying a lot of timber could actually "get rid" of their T2 by losing that weight, whereas that wasn't going to be likely for me. It's not going to stop me from trying to get my...

Newly diagnosed, some personal details, some questions.. and a hullo!

Are there side effects to Metformin in that regard? I'm not on statins yet and I'm trying to get the lifestyle in place to avoid it, but I have been concerned about a deterioration in my mental function. I should really read the leaflet in the Metformin box shouldn't I.....

Thanks Rachox, I like the definition of "well controlled". It helps me to understand that there isn't a goal for me of achieving a certain state and I'll be free, but rather I have a daily standard to maintain to stay well. ANd thanks for not calling me a noob for asking!
