    Type 1

Hi Becca - agree with Searley, some CGM's do not have the money available and then the selection process means that children get them before any of us, so when they hand pumps out they want to ensure that those who benefit the most are getting them, part of this is showing you are trying your...

month on from diagnosis type1 - needle phobia

I haven't heard of injecting into flat tissue, I suspect you are more likely to hit blood vessels this way, as a type 1 who injected for around 6 years around 7-8 injections a day i'd never inject into flat tissue and always used the 'pinch an inch' method instead, I found it far less painful...

month on from diagnosis type1 - needle phobia

Absolutely fantastic that you are able to do the injections, it's impossible to cope otherwise so you are doing great there. I am on a pump now but when injecting I would pinch an area of good fatty tissue and inject into that, rather than poking it direct into skin, so less painful this way...

    TIR vs Hba1c

Your DSN would prefer your 80% TIR as said above it's considered safer - we are being told to use TIR now for this reason, however it's changing your mindset from HbA1C which takes some doing as we still see it as a benchmark.

Where to keep insulin when not using a bag

Hi Nathan, Welcome to the forum. I use a bum bag or a running belt off Amazon which keeps gear neatly tucked away and out of sight, they're not expensive either but at least it's all together in one place so unable to lose it easily.

    Treating lows

Tbh the absolute nectar for dropping glucose levels is Glucojuice, they come in small bottles, so 1 bottle treats a hypo, if you can think in terms of what will be absorbed quickly, orange and apple juice are also good, but it depends if it needs to be accessed at home or on the go. I haven't...

    The Look

Hi and welcome @BTooSweet Are you based in the US ? Can you explain in more context about your question ? In the UK we get needles on prescription so no need to ask.

    Treating lows

Hi Richard, I am pretty active, I go running 3-4 times a week so carrying hypo treatments can be tricky but I do make sure I have them on me at all times as been caught short before, for runs I carry glucotabs as they come in long tubes and I can generally stash in a pocket or bum bag, for...

    Cannula issues

Absolutely agree with the pump being a life changer, it was for me, had to work hard to get access but was just compliant with everything they asked me to do and so they could see the effort I was putting in and wouldn't be wasted by giving me a pump, I think knocking your sites will cause you...

    high bgs after op

Agree with Nicola - stress hormones would keep you elevated not the pain killers, I think it can take a while for this to wear off - Ellie has made a good point as you should follow sick day rules and keep well hydrated too, good wishes for the recovery.

    Cannula issues

Hi - ok that explains the blood, I get the same however mine in part are also due to using Ljumjev which has a preservative which irritates the site and then cause blood to leak too, there isn't a solution to my knowledge except site change and perhaps revert to a manual injection to counter the...

78[emoji646]g and Simplera reading vastly different to Blood Glucose

Sensors can take up to 24 hours to bed in with readings so checking against a meter is going to have some anomalies to start, then there's the 20 min lag against sensor vs actual too, I tend to just accept the first 24 hours as a wobble before looking seriously at inaccuracies.

    Cannula issues

Hi Rach - what sets are you using ? I use steel cannula sets and get blood around the set, if I feel I am running high due to this and no other factors i'll either just change the 1st part of the set with the tip and do a tube fill or if insulin is running low on the pump then i'll change the...

    Blood sugars out of control

Hi @laynecobain Welcome to the forum :) Today is always a good day to start getting a handle on things, it would help to know more so what insulins are you using and what delivery system so injections/pump, also are you using a sensor or a glucose meter ? Although we can speak from...

    NEW CGM ANOTHER HYPO!!!

Ok next time you site a sensor on your arm just check it's not in an area you are likely to sleep on and hopefully you won't get this happen. I have to admit even if I go low during the night I still mostly sleep through them, having become immune to the sound of the alarm, I know you don't...

    NEW CGM ANOTHER HYPO!!!

Did you feel groggy upon waking ? Unless you feel slightly out of sorts it's safe to assume a false low from a compression - try using the inside of your arms to site the sensor so you don't sleep on it.

    NEW CGM ANOTHER HYPO!!!

Did you check this against a glucose meter to confirm it was a real hypo and not a false hypo caused by a compression when the sensor is slept on ?

    Cholesterol again!

I was paranoid about taking statins but as I fall into the 'at risk' category I decided to bite the bullet and take them, tbh I don't know what all the hype was about, have had minimal side effects that could be related to either being menopausal, t1d or just getting older, i.e. aching joints...

    Tired of feeling unwell

Hello Nicola, Sorry to hear of the issues you have had to deal with in managing your t1d. What type of support do you get with your t1d management, so are you under the care of a specialist Diabetes team ? Have you ever completed any course for t1d such as Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating ...

    Long Hypo!!

Hello @Neckarski_94 Please speak to your DSN and get some support, not sure if you feel that you can't or just don't want to, but asking for help is vital when living with this, I had some massive issues not long after diagnosis and didn't know who to turn to, as a mum I had a child to support...
