Checking In 3 Weeks After Diagnosis.

@HappyPumpkin you are doing well, and if you find that you stall you can remove the high carb fruit for an extra push towards normal levels. Chocolate is actually OK, in moderation, but not the high sugar bars which fill most of the shelves. Go for the high cocoa ones and either use it in...

    Toenail changes

I saw similar but far less alteration in my toes on one foot after a bad reaction to the AZ Covid vaccine, after which my lower legs and feet were very swollen and one to on my right foot was like a plum tomato. I come from a long line of midwives, nurses and herbalists on my father's side, and...

    Diabetes with liver disease

@Glennigogs When diagnosed I could not bend over as I had a rock hard 'bay window' at waist level, It used to push my ribs out - it was really painful. On a low carb diet I have lost 12 inches off my waist - I was almost spherical. I am 70lb lighter and I can pick things up off the floor and...

Well - I started off at 91 and was back in normal numbers in 6 months and feeling so much better. I had been nagged into eating a high carb diet, everything low fat, and it really did not suit me at all. I felt ill and was almost spherical when diagnosed. I lost lads of weight, apparently - I...

    Diabetes and blood Pressure

There have been cases where people have had bad falls after continuing to take BP lowering medication after going low carb, as it can result in dizziness from the BP going too low. As you are so recently diagnosed and - presumably - new to eating low carb it might be best to request a few months...

    Newbie terrified

Metformin is not a medication to control blood glucose, and when I stopped taking it and was able to go out of the house again I saw only positives.

    Which route to take?

I still get guilty remembrance of one of the people on the 'education' course with me. I was already doing very well on low carb and he was obviously having a lot of trouble with his feet. I meant to speak to him after the session, but was diverted. The next time I saw him he'd lost one leg...

    Newly diagnosed and quite terrified.

Low carb is very effective in reversing ordinary type 2. I was very down after 5 weeks of Atorvastatin and Metformin - edging towards suicidal the week before Christmas 2016. I think settling on low carb Atkins style eating helped me to get back to something approaching normal.

    Which route to take?

I have to add in salt to my diet as soon as the weather gets warm, and I add a tiny sprinkle of salt to my coffee all through winter - I tend to abandon hot drinks around April. If I don't I get awful cramps - but there is no salt in the foods I eat as they are all unprocessed. I don't need to...

    Confused about diagnosis

But I don't know if a higher FBG would be good or bad when taken at a particular stage in either progression or reversal. It could mean that your reserves are emptying out and lowering the stress on your body rather than something bad going on.

    Confused about diagnosis

If you are not pushing the progression towards higher blood glucose levels by eating high carb foods then - assuming ordinary type 2 diabetes was where you were headed, things ought to be controlled or reversed. I was way into type 2 numbers with a Hba1c of 91, but quickly dropped to normal...

    Newly Diagnosed

Your nurse should really have explained how type 2 encourages a 'bay window' effect - it is how the Human body tries to cope with it. I always noticed that if I ever managed to lower weight on low carb it went from my waist but my fat soon rearranged itself to move from elsewhere to refill my...

    Newbie - Hypo confused

I think what can happen, if you are in the early stages of recovery in type 2 is that your pancreas could still be overproducing insulin being a bit hysterical after being ignored during the build up to diagnosis. Insulin can prevent energy reserves being released as glucose can't get out of the...

    Newly diagnosed and quite terrified.

@Christafur I was diagnosed with Hba1c of 91 and was back to normal in 6 months with no need for medication and all seems well 5 years later - but I don't drink regularly, and just a small amount when I do which could be a factor. The leaflet which comes with Metformin probably warns against...

Insane Muscle Aches and twitches at night - Terrified of something serious

@Prince4 Metformin depletes B12, and when taking Atorvastatin and Metformin my muscles were severely weakened plus they seemed to have a life of their own - 5 weeks of tablets after diagnosis and I was in a seriously bad place mentally. Fortunately I threw them in the bin as stuck to low carb so...

    Newbie terrified

Classic for a plain uncomplicated type 2 - we just do not do well on carbs no matter how much they are touted as a healthy choice, we are not nourished or sustained by them. Personally I went for two meals a day with protein and fat plus around 10 gm of carbs in the morning and up to 40 in the...

Doing Low-Carb but not losing weight

@IanBish The crab sticks are probably high carb - they are normally not all crab by any stretch. Sweetcorn is a grain, though not as high carb as some, it can still add up if eaten regularly. If you cook cauliflower in two lots of water - drain after 5 minutes and start again, that will remove...

    Getting started

I do hope you can cope with Metformin - I was so ill taking it along with Atorvastatin, and throwing them in the bin was the right choice for me. Who on earth has said that your only choice is yoghurt? I do eat it with berries and sugar free jelly and cream, but only as a dessert or an indolent...

    Eating to Drop Morning Glucose

I'm afraid that a doctor is unlikely to supply a tester - might even try to discourage testing, even though it can be so useful. The way of eating which will help a straightforward type 2 is rather contrary to modern advice in what is healthy, but it seems to work for quite a few people with...

    Eating to Drop Morning Glucose

Do you check your levels before starting to eat and then 2 hours after that? It can give a lot of information about how you are coping with food and if the choices were good ones.
