    Low carb meal plan

I had the same advice - after struggling for 50 years I was still being berated for becoming vastly overweight with a huge waistline - almost spherical. Following what had always made me feel so much better - pretty much the Atkins diet, 50 gm of carbs a day max, I was just about back to normal...

    Socks! Recommendations (for UK shopping)?

@JenniferW Have you thought of knitting your own? I started making a lot of my own clothes way back in the 1960s and have probably had a sock in progress ever since - they are so much more comfortable than anything I have ever bought - I tend to make rather flashy ones - I was, after all, a...

    Just unable to cope anymore

We just had to deal with rats - we poisoned them ourselves, but there are numerous businesses which will do the job for you. It probably feels far more dreadful than it is - if they are not in the house, just in the cavity then there is no danger of contaminated food. We found a broken drainpipe...

    Low carb meal plan

You could look for Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - the last edition is 2003 I think, and they used to cost mere pennies. There are lists of foods, meals with various amounts of carbs - the only downside is that it is American in origin and so there are foods we don't get over here in the UK.

    Greetings

I found that following a high carb low fat diet made me lose muscle and I had to give up work for a while, but once I was diagnosed and eating protein and fats my strength has improved - after all muscle is meat, and carbs are not essential - they are stored as fat and that is something I really...

    Metformin is making me miserable

I have no history of depression, but was actually planning suicide - only Christmas getting in the way and me deciding to stop taking the tablets so I could visit family without disgracing myself saved me. If only GPs would take notice and record these things - we need to get some T shirts...

    Numb toes

Our shower has a safety feature which allows the maximum temperature to be set and you can then only turn the lever from totally cold up to that point - I think most modern showers have that - or they ought to have. It is separate from the flow control.

    Numb toes

I have found a hand held shower and hot and cold water used alongside massage to get the blood flowing helped a lot. When I reacted badly to the AZ Covid jab - I thought it had done for me at one point, and my legs and feet were very swollen I was massaging my legs up to four times a day. When...

Continuing weight gain for resistance training with Type 2?

@murks I have been able to regain strength eating no more than 40 gm of carbs a day, so much so that I have gone back to work after having to give up as I could not heave the knitting machines around any longer. As you are eating over 100 gm of carbs a day you have a lot of leeway in reducing...

    Low carb shopping

Order from Grapetree website and you'll probably find that you can get things cheaper, as they have offers there which are not available in the shops. Order enough (store things in the freezer to keep them fresh) and you get free postage - as long as you are not very remote. Very occasionally I...

    Distressing appointment with DN

I had the most dreadful side effects from Metformin and Atorvastatin - fortunately I found I did not need them. Once I was seeing under 8mmol/l after meals I stuck to those foods and meals and saw my numbers reduce, as presumably it took the pressure off and my metabolism started to recover.

    Distressing appointment with DN

@Maggie75 Cholesterol goes up when you lose weight as they are part of the process of moving and disposing of stored fats. You had lost weight so naturally the cholesterol numbers would be higher - with any luck your normal metabolism will restore itself once things settle down. However, if you...

    Frustration with numbers

To keep my numbers in the right range, I don't eat bread, or any grain, and I am careful with legumes as they are quite high carb for me, even though they are listed as not too bad at all. I understand that you don't have as many choices as I do as an omnivore - but are there foods you could use...

    HBA1c 48

You are only just into the diabetes range. I would expect that removing some of the higher carb sources from your diet would drop you back into normal numbers, and you could argue for that if your GP suggests tablets. Not everyone reacts badly, but for those of us who do it can be really...

    Statins

Statins can have a huge effect on susceptible people. My brother in law was put on a statin for no reason other than the GP though it was a good idea. My sister mourns for the life they had, the conversations, the activities and holidays they had. Her husband sits and watches TV.

    Newly diagnosed and super confused

You really need to talk to someone who can give you proper guidance - to be constantly going low is not good at all. Please insist on consultation before the weekend, don't put yourself in danger.

    confused and worried

@jayne j welcome to the forum. With HbA1c that high reduction in carbs should not be done too swiftly, even if you have been given a pretty harsh deadline. I started off with a HbA1c of 91 and went no carbs for over 2 days after diagnosis, then no more than 50gm a day - but my nickname wasn't...

Nobody told me Metformin causes explosive Diarrhea

In my experience over the last half century or so my GPs have been as much use as a chocolate teapot in providing any sort of support. My blood glucose normalised so quickly I was no longer diabetic by the second test at 80 days, so all the clinic has done is an annual blood test, foot and blood...

Nobody told me Metformin causes explosive Diarrhea

Perhaps I should make clear that my decision to stop taking the Metformin and Atorvastatin was due to contemplating suicide on several occasions in December 2016 - to the extent that I had decided not to do it just before Christmas as that was when my grandmother died and it affected the family...

Nobody told me Metformin causes explosive Diarrhea

Oh dear @NoMoreBeerAnymore I could not live with the consequences of Metformin - I had to turn around and come home several times, luckily the worst 'incidents' were all at home but it was a close thing more than once. We are unfortunate in that many find they can take Metformin and be fine. I...
