    Eating to Drop Morning Glucose

My glucose would go on rising if I did not eat first thing. I would have a meal with about 10gm of carbs, but protein and fat from eggs cheese or meat or fish. These days my reserves seem to have reduced and I don't need to eat at all until later in the day.

starving yourself is like hating yourself

Not the same as simply not eating because you are not hungry - I only eat once a day now - yet for many people that would be great deprivation.

    Pizza night!

Early 30s and underweight? Red flag for something other than a type 2 scenario there. Ordinary type 2s are usually about twice as old as you and twice as heavy as they ought to be so it could be a signal for further examination and awareness that there are other possibilities which should be...

    Need more info

I managed 5 weeks on Metformin and Atorvastatin, but they were dreadful and it took quite some time to get over the consequences of such hellish treatments Fortunately I knew that I am happiest when eating an Atkins type diet, and was back into normal numbers eating no more than 50 gm of carb a...

Could my blood test be wrong?

Oh - I read it as there being previous Hba1c tests with higher numbers which have now come down to the normal range. I have perhaps firmly grasped the wrong end of the stick...

Could my blood test be wrong?

But you are diabetic - just controlling it so you are in remission. I am in the same situation, I just do not eat pancakes because, as a plain ordinary type 2 diabetic I can't cope with the carbs. I make cheese waffles, aka 'chaffles' from time to time, as they are almost carb free.

    Help re milk please

Could you try a less usual tea, maybe berry flavour, or mint, liquorice - or use al little lemon juice? I used to enjoy ordinary tea, but covid altered my taste and I have never been able to go back to drinking it.

Long-term metformin woes; has anybody experience quitting?

Oh yes - I lasted about 5 weeks on the tablets, and then I threw them in the bin. The combined effects of Metformin and Atorvastatin were too much to bear. I rely on a low carb diet, and it works. I never actually needed to go through that misery, though I am mentally stronger now.

    Help please

Sweet potato is too high in carbs for me. I tend to have mashed swede rather than potato.

Are those levels two hours after starting to eat? It would help to know what you ate, if that is the case.

    Cold hands/feet/nose

My digestion was slow, my pulse rate reduced, my normal temperature was over a degree below average. All my nails grew really slowly, and my hair - oh, and my eyebrows vanished away starting at the ear ends and shrank down to about half what they should be - these days I know that I have got the...

    Cold hands/feet/nose

Have you had your thyroid checked recently? The cold hands and feet I certainly remember even though it was a very long time ago that I was diagnosed with a failed thyroid. It took a long time to be diagnosed though. I was tested half a dozen times and told that it was all OK, right up until it...

New pre diabetic trying to gain muscle

We can't make muscle out of anything but amino acids, and for normal endocrine functioning and repairs to lipid containing structures, we need fats. I have been able to go back to moving knitting machines around for a job now that I am eating protein and the natural fats which come with them...

I eat Yorkshire puddings several times a year - I am very good at making them, but on a normal day I eat only one meal and have no more than 40 gm of carbs. I used to eat twice but recently just stopped being interested in food in the mornings. I suspect that if I was younger, I am 72 now, I...

    Wheaten bread

Totally useless for a type 2 diet controlled, it has to be a low carb option. Fats are not involved in glucose control except as part of a normal healthy diet to supply necessary nutrients and energy.

HBA1c - please tell us how quick you reversed your numbers

I went from 91 to 47 in 80 days after diagnosis, eating 50 gm of carbs per day as a maximum. I did take metformin and atorvastatin for 5 weeks, but it made me really ill. I went down to Hba1c of 41 at 6 months, so I don't think I ever really required the tablets. I have been at the top end of...

Taking Blood Glucose one hour or two hours?

The test is to see how you are dealing with the meal - it isn't to see what the numbers are so much as what difference the meal has made and how you cope with the foods. When you see the after meal number at two hours from starting to eat you can usually gauge how things are going for you and if...

    Are Seed Oils a Hazard?

I have cut out seed oils and 'spreads' from my diet for the last 5 and 1/2 years and these days I do not need the factor 50 sunscreen which was the only way to protect me from excruciating pain in the summer months. I was out today playing for morris and maypole and it was gloriously sunny. I...

    Symptoms of T2 diabetes

Basically 40 odd years of HCPs going ballistic at me for putting on weight and being resistant to losing on low calorie low fat diets but feeling a lot better on those really dangerous faddy ways of eating as proposed by quacks like Dr Atkins. My Hba1c was 91 at diagnosis.

Low Carb - colder hands and feet

When I was finally treated for a failed thyroid the first thing I noticed was the warmth in my hands and feet - it might be worth mentioning to your GP and asking for a thyroid check as long as that will not be considered too uppity in today's unfortunate circumstances.
