Ornithologists often ogle owls, orioles, ospreys, ouzels, oystercatchers or ostriches. 'Owever, owls obviously only observe other owls!

Tea - has Diabetes changed your tea habits ?

I'm feeling very alone here! I hate tea without sugar, and can't bear it with sweeteners either, so since I became diabetic I have stopped drinking tea altogether. Funnily enough, I am happy to drink unsweetened coffee, so that's what I have all the time.

Upgraded to windows 8.1... Now locked out of PC.

No comfort to those affected, I know, but the answer to all this constant Windows hassle is to bite the bullet, abandon Microsoft, and join the Apple Mac brigade. After decades of Windows unfriendliness I gave up the struggle last winter. An expensive solution, but ever since, sheer bliss...

Wear your watch left or right hand....

On my left wrist, and I'm left handed. Its on the left because winders are on the right, and you could wind the watch without taking it off. My present watch is solar powered and radio controlled, so never needs adjusting, but I still wear it on the left because that's what I became used to.

Comics - what did you read?

Mine was the "Eagle", with "Dan Dare", (the spaceman hero) with his sidekick Digby, in his spaceship "Anastasia", taking on the evil Mekon! And there was "Luck of The Legion" (all about legionnaires), and the scruffy cowboy "Hank"

    National Trusts / English Heritage

There are certainly some places where NT and EH have reciprocal agreements... Stonehenge is one. Stonehenge is EH, but NT members can park free, and I think the entrance fee is reduced, or waived, too. But I don't think its a blanket agreement everywhere.

    xray times-help?

In Cambridgeshire X-rays seem to take up to a week to arrive at GP's. We get an option to attend the X-ray units at either Addenbrookes Hospital (Cambridge) with horrendous parking and fairly long waits in the department, or Newmarket hospital, with easy parking right outside X-ray and...

    Kidney stone now!

I feel for you, Mark! I've been there, got the tee shirt, stent and all! I would wholeheartedly agree with those who claim a kidney stone is the most painful thing ever... far surpassing the pain of the worst childbirth (and it was a WOMAN who made that claim, not one of us wimpy, wingeing...

    Disposal of lancets

If you use an Accuchek Fastclix or Multiclix lancing device, they come with cartridges containing six lancets each, and as the lancets themselves are completely contained within the cartridge the used cartridges can be disposed of in normal household waste. You can get one of these free with...

    131% of Type 1s

Has to be a typo.... otherwise it would mean that out of 100 people, 131 would be affected! Doesn't compute.

    Stents

Presumably you had a cardiac catheterisation procedure in order to obtain your diagnosis. Inserting the stents involves a similar procedure...in fact, I'm surprised they didn't put the stents in at the same time...they would have done if they had thought it was really urgent (unless there were...

    Victoza and travel

I would have thought that if you kept the unopened Victoza in an activated Frio wallet, that would count as it being in the fridge. The thirty days limit is if it is kept at room temperature, and the Frio ought to keep it a good few degrees lower than that. I'm sure Novo Nordisk (the...

    'We are all different'

Back in the 1960's one of the lecturers at a London medical school used to tell medical students that his first tenet of medicine was that "people differ". By this he meant that whilst the students would learn all sorts of "rules" and "laws" about anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgery...

What did our parents do in the war?

My father was a draughtsman, and therefore in a reserved occupation...he was needed to make drawings for blueprints of equipment designed for the war effort. In the evenings and at weekends he was in the Home Guard. I was born in 1945, just as the war ended, and I can remember playing with...

    Just been given different brand

I must have been given at least six different brands of slow release Metformin in the last couple of years. The only difference I can tell between them is the size of the tablets. Bolamyn are quite big, and the smallest I've had are Metabet.
