Medtronic 640G or Accu chek insight pump

Medtronic pump has been good for me for over five years. I wear a sports jogging belt to put the pump in. The pump is waterproof. It has an insulin suspend function if you link it to a cgm when your blood glucose gets too low. It has a remote bolus function using the blood testing Contour Next...

    Britain's big diet! More confusion?

When the powers that be decided that fat was bad, sausages became tasteless tubes of sawdust with a tiny bit of meat. Why don’t they leave our food alone and make the green veg cheaper to encourage us to fill up on it rather than the processed stuff?

Hospital staff urged to improve knowledge to avoid diabetes-related hospital mistakes

I spent 10 minutes with the anaesthetist before my operation showing him how to test my blood sugar, suspend my pump or give mini correction bolus if necessary. They kept my pump on and protected it from x-ray during the operation. That was The Royal Berks in Reading. My usual hospital is...

    basal or bolus not sure

Check that the same food does the same thing every time you eat it before you change basal amounts. It might just be that the breakfast you had raises your blood glucose more than you think and needs a bit more bolus to cover it.

    Type 1 severe back pain

I find that lying on my back on the floor with my legs up on the sofa is a relef. I'm on gabapentine too. It's hard to read a book or watch tv from that position though! :)

    Is this okay?

It does get easier with practice. If it hurts it's probably wrong so best to change it but I expect you will get less 'wrong' sites as you get used to inserting the cannula

    Medtronic Carelink problem

I upgraded my computer and the Carelink connection no longer works. Medtronic say that they are waiting for approval to release a new version of the programme that will work with the upgrade but for the time being I can't download my test results to Carelink. BEWARE before upgrades!

    Struggling :(

The Lantus is more difficult to quickly adjust so perhaps they want you to use more quick acting insulin when you are high rather than running the risk of nighttime lows. I was getting nighttime lows and waking with high blood sugar as my liver was pumping out glucose to compensate. Try to...

Finally on DAFNE - Pump questions

After the Dafne course I asked at my hospital appointment about the pump and was put on a morning course (no commitments) to look at three different types to see how they worked. We were all then given the option to go on a pump or to stay on injections. We got to choose the pump we preferred...

Animas Vibe, Medtronic or Accuchek Combo?

I have a Medtronic. It is easy to use, and works like a charm. Don't worry about which pump so much as which type of cannula set as this will depend on your size (plump, skinny etc) and lifestyle (sporty?). All the pumps have similar sets to choose from, except the Omnipod.

    Have you named your pump?

I am really cruel as my pump has no name!

    Medtronic Veo Vs Animas Vibe

The Veo has a remote that you can set to give a fixed dose of insulin for each press of the remote button. I don't use mine as I tend to keep the pump in a handy place like clipped to a belt and use the wizard on the pump to work out doseage. I would recommend the Veo but have not got experience...
