What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

An astonishing 5.0 this morning! One month in on keto and I am seeing numbers like I hadn't seen in decades on lazy LC. Unfortunately, I know from experience that extended keto causes me thyroid issues, so as per Dr. Wahls, I will be alternating keto with LC, though I don't think my thyroid...

    Coffee

I can't handle dairy, but I find that Aroy-D coconut milk doesn't effect my blood sugar at all and tastes nice.

    I do as well.

How to stop my 9am blood sugar spike

Yes, sugar from the liver is released from the liver in response to stress the stress hormone cortisol. The cortisol is released as a part of the normal waking up process as well as other kinds of stress. The liver will make glycogen from protein if it doesn't have access to carbs, so to really...

    Excercise Ideas for Beginners

I feel you, Neenee. It sounds like perhaps you are where I started. I was always a low energy person due to untreated hypothyroid, Even after my thyroid issues were resolved, my habits were very sedentary. I eventually overcame them, and became quite active as a walker...until a few years ago...

How to stop my 9am blood sugar spike

Yep, our body kicks out...cortisol, I think? which causes the liver to kick out sugar to "help us have the energy to hunt" for our first meal of the day. The longer we fast, the higher the sugar kick can be, because "obviously" (from an evolutionary perspective) the morning hunt didn't go well...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.4 this morning. Not bad considering I've been sick for two days and unable to walk.

    Blood sugar reading goals

I have been diabetic (type 2) for decades. I went on autopilot for a lot of that time, since I had a routine down that meant reasonably blood sugars at every test. Recently, I had COVID post viral syndrome and that seems to have kicked me in the endocrine system - scary rise inhbA1c has me...

How long after T2 diagnosis did you start insulin

Diagnosed 23 years ago. Went on insulin during pregnancy 15 years later. Went off afterward and am still not requiring it. Until recenty, I was diet and exercise only, but earier this year I started to take herbs to make my blood sugar more responsive to my efforts.

    Should I be concerned?

FWIW, I agree with your mother. It sounds like diabetes to me. I also think I'd be quick to fire that doctor, but that's me. I won't tolerate MDiety syndrome.

Type 2 Way to Convert to US Units for A1C?

FWIW, @NeeNee87, my numbers are currently creeping from dark red into orange at the moment. I haven't seen frankly green for years - but I'm working o0n it. I want to die with diabetes, not of it.

Type 2 Way to Convert to US Units for A1C?

Unfortunately it is that bad, Neenee87. Over time, those high numbers are causing very real, irreversible damage. In the end, poorly controlled blood sugar is a painful, gruesome way to die. However, "better than it was" is at least extending the time of relative good health for you...

It does sound less alarming, doesn't it? ;)

Type 2 Way to Convert to US Units for A1C?

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html I use it constantly since I was diagnosed in the US and spent 15 years learning that scale. :p

    Berberine

I take berberine instead of metformin, since I can't tolerate one of the inactive ingredients in metformin and I can't afford to get it made for me without that ingredient. What I found was that berberine didn't work for me by itself, but when I added black seed oil, it gave me blood sugar that...

    Please Someone

Hi, pb&cj! I have to tell you that I believe that high blood glucose can *cause* depression and anxiety all by itself. Add it to other triggers, certainly it would make matters worse because with high blood sugar, you feel just plain dreadful, though it comes on slowly enough that it may only...

    Muscle pain and aches

I have never had that experience, Betes1. How long ago were you diagnosed? How are your numbers now? My entirely uninformed thought is, could it be the beginnings of neuropathy? I'm sure that as the world wakes up, someone with far more knowledge than me will chime in.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Morning all! FBG this lovely Tuesday morning is 5.7! It's not consistent yet, but I have been seeing readings in the 5s pretty frequently lately! It has been years since I've seen numbers like that! In April, I was seeing FBG between 8.5 and 11, and if I tried to fast, it went up and up and...

    Soups and stews please

"Cream of Green", or Green Soup I am a bit of a peasant - my recipes tend to be more "technique" than recipe, so you can usually sub most things out and still get something yummy. Here goes: 1. First, sauté an onion and garlic to taste - I use three cloves for a large soup pot full. 2. While...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Yesterday 5.1, today 5.3! I haven't seen FBG in the 5s in many, many years! Like 20! And then only when I was pregnant and on insulin! This is amazing! A month in with my 4-5km walks every day and keto. Before the herbs, both things sent my BG spiraling out of control since long COVID...
