How would you manage if ......

Yes ‘guess and hope’ sums it up for me too, like you I had good HBa1's somehow, that is never above 8 but not under 7, loads of highs and so many bad hypos but that was considered part of the diabetic lot. I'd certainly trade in all that for a bit of anxiety these days, the knowledge and...

How would you manage if ......

Great idea for a post, I like it! Like you having had my diabetic life improved by all the above and I now realise how tough the first ten years were. The only upside to having basic blood testing kit, BM sticks cut in 4 to last longer, syringes and vials of pork insulin then is that we didn’t...

Want to switch to fiasp after 15 years on novorapid

I had a go with Fiasp in my pump a few years ago and liked it initially but found it less effective after a few months which some others have found too so reverted back to Novorapid. I also had delayed highs after eating fatty foods as I guess the Fiasp was in and out of my system by the time it...

    Patch for omipod sites

I use Lycra runners armbands to keep the pods on when I have a pod on my arm, vet wrap is ok in that it doesn’t use adhesive but kinesiology tape works well and is cheap from Aldi/ Lidl. Worth a go anyway.

Oxford/Pfizer vaccines , first hand report

Just wanted to update my post, looking back over the last 10 days since having had the vaccination I now realise that I did get a few side effects in that my total daily dose increased by around 10/15% but turned to normal over the last day or so. I've also slept an hour or more each night as...

Oxford/Pfizer vaccines , first hand report

No, this place was giving out the Pfizer and had one left at end of day so obviously my husband as front line worker rightly took priority and was told not enough for me but then it was suggested I might like to be the first to have the Oxford vaccine. Keen to have anything really so was quite...

Oxford/Pfizer vaccines , first hand report

I had the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine 24 hours ago and just want to report that so far I've had few side effects, my arm aches a little and possibly feeling a bit tired but that might be auto suggestion. My blood sugars have stayed exactly the same. My husband who isn’t a type 1 had the Pfizer...

    Need help!

Hi Sam, I think it’s very likely to be the honeymoon period so it might be worth reducing your insulin a little and see if that helps, keep monitoring your bloods though. I'd really recommend you speak first to a DSN or endocrinologist though as I'm just a person on the internet and don’t know...

    pump sites leaving scarring

Tea tree oil might help a little, worth a try. Also occasionally I use the leaves from an aloe vera plant I was given. I'm not the least ‘alternative’ sort of person and first choice is local chemist but these things have helped me and the Omnipod pod marks over the years.

    Diagnosis

You sound as though you’re amazingly getting to grips with and even seeing huge benefits post diagnosis, so impressed! Really enjoyed seeing your Christmas meal, delicious and great choice, our diet changes a bit but doesn’t have to be a punishment diet as you've proved. Long may the positivity...

    Testing Strips Over Christmas Period

Get in touch with your consultant/DSN tomorrow and ask them to tell your GP immediately to amend your son's scrip to however many strips you think he needs for a month but try two months which is what I have. As a new type 1 and a child he should be having a lot more help. I'm sure you'll get...

Obvious solution to Covid Vaccine implementation

I think you're probably right but needs must so it could change. In the past only medics could take blood, now students can be trained as phlebotomists to do it so who knows?

Obvious solution to Covid Vaccine implementation

The difficulty of vaccinating the whole population is immense and will take huge resources to do this quickly and effectively. It was mentioned on the BBC last night that even lay people could be trained up. What better and immediate resource is available than us type 1 needle experts? It would...

    Novavax vaccine Trial

I signed up and was accepted but decided not to go ahead last week as there are quite a few long hospital visits involved over a year and with only a 50% chance of getting the vaccine rather than the placebo it didn’t seem worthwhile on top of all the other diabetic appointments we have. I...

Infected site? New to podding, omnipod.

You might be very unlucky and have an infection so draw a circle around with a pen to cover the red area and if it gets worse and spreads then go and get some antibiotics tomorrow quickly. I've been on Omnipod for nine years and had one in the first year but none since but it is important to...

    Eye tests

I received an NHS letter today asking me to call and make an eye appointment detailing all the safety Covid procedures in place. I phoned and have an appointment for 2 weeks time, I'll go and see no reason why not.

Type one may be less risky than thought wrt C19

I totally agree with not allowing yourself to get hospitalised in the first place, I've never been impressed by hospital staff decisions for type 1's and have briefed my other half not to leave my side if ever admitted, to follow my instructions for maintaining my sugars and to say no to sliding...

Diabetic parents and the effects on their children

This is such an interesting discussion, my two now in their 20's, had a lot to put up with and I always felt guilty at subjecting two little girls to a mother who had some inevitably bad, visible and embarrassing hypos over the years and knew from about four years old where the biscuit tin was...
