    Request for gliclazide dose increase

Hi folks, I have been on Metformin and gliclazide (80mg) for about 7-8 years now since diagnosed as severe diabetic. The first few years were OK and the numbers usually 5-7. However, as the years went by and especially the last two years, the numbers often increased to 11 and sometimes 16. I...

DIABETES AND MY OTHER LONG TERM CONDITIONS

    Advised against Blood glucose meter

I can't understand why you were refused the meter at the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area staff.

    New guy here.

I wish you luck with your condition TCO. I wonder if your bout with pancreatitis may not have been responsible for getting Diabetes 2. Sticking to a good blood sugar range (4-7) on average with a 10 limit postprandreal, should help and avoiding sugars and carbs will help you. I hope things go...

    Google looking at diabetes

Great! I hope Google comes up with a diabetic watch; i know it will be hard to insert a recording needle in the skin without the risk of infection. Maybe there is an indirect way.

    Unawareness/no symptoms of hypos?

Me too; and it has happened gradually as on the first year of diabetes the hypos were more frequent due to a stronger sulfonylurea drug, which my doctor changed. How the unawareness progressed I am not sure as I am not a doctor. But I might guess that the frequency may have burned out some...

    Thyroid completely removed.

BobCee, congratulations and the hospital for this delicate work. I am not sure if you had hypothyroidism, as you describe lethargy. Was your thyroid condition related to diabetes? And I suppose you must be taking a thyroid hormone now. I've always been amazed by endocrinologists.to

Hypo then given verbal warning, with possible dismissal

Good grief! I'm not sure that your employer is acting within the law, especially as you were hired with medical knowledge in the beginning. I would speak to a lawyer and get a report from your doctor. Your treatment may be off. BTW you say you hit a hypo, and yet you have infections-- that's...

    Variable hypos

Thanks Nosher. Maybe endocrinologists rather than Big Pharma understand the effects of hypos. Now atfer 5 yrs of Diabetes 2 I gradually became unaware, but that is not a good thing, because you have to rush to your meter before you become too hypoglycymic (esp. the heart).. And yes. all the...

    Variable hypos

Do any of you people have variable hypos sometimes? Usually they are typical for me, with the symptoms you read in literature or here: dizzy, tremor, anxiety, tachycardia, cognitive loss, hunger, etc. But, sometimes, more rarely as yesterday, I became very sleepy and not mentally sharp. I had...

feeling ill when blood are at 4.5 Type 2.

Is it possible that some diabetics don't tolerate lows, especially if they have a sensitive heart? After all, the max at 7 preprandrial is acceptable.

PLEASE HELP! MY FRIEND IS NOT CONTROLLING HIS TYPE 1 DIABETES

David, I am sorry about your friends hypos. Everyone knows that they are dangerous and cumulative with each one. My guess, would be the dose of his insuline I am guessing he is taking insulin because he is Diabetic I and insulin is more likely to make you hypo than the oral drugs.

When people say there is a cure for diabetes.

I'm waiting for the Google Geeks to manufacture a diabetic watch. That will make the pharmaceutical companies happy, though I think Google should get the Patent.

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

Hmmmm.... When I was first treated for Diabetes 2, I was given 3 tablets of Metformin (huge dose) and instructed to exercise and be on a diet (3 months or so). For some reason I did not reach a good number; infact the number was something like 17 so they had to add a sulfanurea drug which...

    Low 5's and eating - Type 2

Thanks for the advice Diamattic. When I eat too much and I am on the low range, I do feel chest tightness. I eat a lot so as not to feel too low and I have read that as you age the lower numbers are not the best. BTW I take gluclizide, not insulin.

    Low 5's and eating - Type 2

Bingo.... that is something i read in my Jphns Hopkins Diabetes book. But I was also curious about the side effects of sulfam.... oral drugs which do have a heart burn side effect--- something i would rather have than a cardiac roller coaster. Thank you.

    Low 5's and eating - Type 2

I have noticed that when I get a blood glucose number of say 5.1 on my meter and continue to eat, i get an upper stomach/heart? symptom. Often I get tired after and maybe take a nap. Then I stabilize. I wonder if I am just eating a lot to bring the number up or if it is a cardiac response...
