Type 2 DIY OGTT Results (On Newcastle Diet / LC)

Very well done! An inspiration to us all. I haven't had the nerve to do the 800 carb diet yet - that's on my to do list. I've done the 5:2 before but that was before T2 diagnosis 10 weeks ago.

Dumplings? Friend determined to sabotage Diet

If she's so up to date on diabetes then she would not be taking this attitude - sounds like she doesn't like being told she's in the wrong. If she's took the pip well that's her bad not yours - its your health you have to look after and if she was such a good friend she'd be supportive rather...

Dumplings? Friend determined to sabotage Diet

I've had to reach a compromise when I go the parents for Sunday dinner - on the menu are always Yorkshire puds and potatoes. I compromise, have the Yorkshire puds and only 3 small potatoes. I also take 2 gymnema sylvestre (along with my Glicliazade). (I believe what they do is prevent the...

Type 1: Accused of Münchhausen by proxy

I think I'd be inclined to ask for an apology from the accuser! Good luck to you all.

    Any tips for using meter?

And after my good advice yesterday what happened today? Used 3 strips before I could get a reading. The difference? Cold hands - it seems to stop the blood droplet being easily grabbed.

What Is It With Statin Drugs And Doctors?

Oh classic - they don't like it when you actually have a brain and an opinion in what happens to you

    Any tips for using meter?

I tend to turn the monitor on first, then prick my finger - I tend to find the pad of the index or ring finger best. Once you've got a large enough drop (usually the size of a small polystyrene ball), I insert the strip into the monitor. It then takes a second or two to be ready for the...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Whew! A respectable 4.3 - courtesy of a low carb dinner and an early night. Way better than 8.0 yesterday.

    Exercise on prescription

I've heard of this before - not just for diabetes - personally I think its a good idea - when you think of the money and lives that could be saved by prescribing exercise - when many people wouldn't even think about it. The

    Nerve Pain - Gabapentin?

Seems odd to prescribe that - they are a neuropathic pain blocker - my sister has been prescribed this for her fibromyalgia.

Type 1 diabetes could increase risk of developing another autoimmune disease

Our family seems to be prone to autoimmune disease - mum and sister have both arthritis and fibromyalgia (please God I miss the last one - its horrible to live with). Dad has psoriasis also.

Type 1 diabetes could increase risk of developing another autoimmune disease

Why they say this is news now I have no idea - basically if you have an autoimmune disease your immune system isn't working properly - sort of stands to reason that you are more likely for something else to go wrong with it since your immune system is not one organ but everything linked...

Type 1 diabetes could increase risk of developing another autoimmune disease

Like this is news - anyone with one autoimmune disease is very likely to develop another one!

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Gulp - 8.0 this morning - how the h*ll did that happen?! (no exercise yesterday and not much sleep will not have helped!)

    Vitamins D3, K2 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Her vitamin D levels were through the floor! They were very likely worse than that but she had recently been to Italy on holiday (at the end of August) and she would have improved her levels because of that. They never did find out why she was so deficient.

    Any tips for using meter?

It may be that the drop of blood is beginning to dry - its surprising how quickly it does. I tend to do my finger prick, then pop the strip in the meter, and then squeeze my finger where I've pricked. If you do this quickly, it doesn't give the blood time to dry and it flows more easily...

    Vitamins D3, K2 and Type 2 Diabetes.

The interesting bit was when I went to the doctors the last time and mentioned about getting a supplement for vitamin D3 (which was recommended by my MG consultant because as he said "most of us living in the UK likely are deficient") I got a very blank look! Very worrying when this was...
