What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.9 , was expecting worse after a CT scan yesterday , the fluid I had to drink before the scan really upset my stomach. Think dumb and dumber turbolax scene.

    Type 1: Goals ramble

I should mention that I don't have a CGM or pump , all achieved on MDI and finger pricks. The downside is I'll never qualify for a pump or CGM, but then there are probably others needing it more than me.

How to stay healthy during cold and flu season

Continuing to exercise in the cold weather prevents me from getting colds/flu during the autumn/winter months. I cycle to work and back every working day in all weathers/temperatures and the fresh air really helps. The only time I've had a cold / flu since T1 diagnosis was last Xmas when I was...

    Type 1 Always COLD!

Anemia possibly ? Are you a vegetarian ? I'm suffering from anemia for the last couple of weeks and I'm freezing (its 20 deg C here) most of the time. Yesterday I had to put on my cycle tights , arm warmers , hat and jacket in the office and got some very strange looks.

    Type 1: Goals ramble

Lots of trial and error, careful bolusing and lots of exercise. I only low carb in the mornings / lunch time and am more relaxed diet wise in the evenings. Evenings I'm more sensitive to insulin after exercise so can get away with some higher carb stuff (mainly unhealthy stuff like chocolate...

    Type 1: Goals ramble

I personally try to keep my blood sugar / HBA1C in non-diabetic ranges at all times. Last few A1C's have been in the high 4's with only minimal hypo's. If I do develop complications then at least I can say I've given it my best effort and won't have any regrets over my control. I pay no...

    Creatine kinase and exercise

I've been hammering it all summer on the exercise front, running , rowing and cycling without a day off for several months. My last blood test indicated I have anemia and my creatinine levels were elevated and GFR was down. I had a second test with roughly the same results, my CKNC...

    Carbs For Cycling

For commuting ~ 14 km each way I've never bothered with snacks in almost 4 years and not had a problem. When I go for longer duration rides ~ 70 km I always go in the morning and DP normally prevents any lows. (I always take some dextrose tablets but have never had cause to use them yet.)

    Running In The Heat Tips

Thanks again for all the tips. I took some iced water with me and poured it over my cap before start. Started to wilt at the 4 km point and had to slow down. Despite that the race went ok, it was > 30 degrees C on the day , I came 98th out of ~ 400 with an average pace of 4.57 mins per KM...
