    Fatty Liver

Hello. I am not a doctor (well, not the medical kind), so I am definitely not qualified to say this, but has your GP mentioned gallstones? It's just that pain under the right rib is a typical symptom.

    Fatty Liver

That is very, very interesting. It explains so much of the way in which type 2 diabetes develops. I am going to read that again a few more times. Thanks so much for pointing it out.

I did wonder where my T2 came from....

I would like to point out that the only valid claim that the statin manufacturers have provided evidence for is that statins improve the mortality of people who have had a heart attack. For that reason, doctors feel it appropriate to prescribe statins in those cases. Unfortunately, even then...

    Statins and type 1

Yes, they are just guidelines and pretty poor ones in my opinion. If anyone wants my opinion, it is: I wouldn't worry too much about total cholesterol or LDL HDL should be over 1.5 Triglycerides should be less than 1.0

    Prescription woes

Hi, I see your original post was 3 days ago. How did you get on? I think there is no substitute in these cases for putting in a personal appearance at the reception and letting them see how desperate you are. In general though, I think you have to 'play the game' and start requesting your meds...

    Alpro Natural Yoghurt

I did look at this when it first came out. In 100g, there is 2.3g fat, 2.1g carbs and 4.0g protein. Those sort of ratios are not very ketogenic or LCHF so I decided not to bother. However, if you don't eat too much of it, it's unlikely to make a lot of difference...

    Bullet Proof Coffee

I found my weight stalling and was very puzzled because I wasn't eating too much of anything. In the end I realised that I wasn't getting enough calories, so I increased macronutrients all round. The theory is that you can never lose weight on a calorie controlled diet as your body just...

    holland and barrett

Hi. I have just agreed with my doctor to stop statins altogether. Your HbA1C and lipids look fine to me and are very comparable with mine. As long as you have nothing else wrong and your blood pressure is OK, in your shoes I would carry on refusing. It's just a matter of preference of your...

A conversation between a doctor and me

Just to add to my previous post... Despite only eating 20g of carbs a day, my blood glucose is steady at about 5 mmol/l. So glucose is getting into my blood (presumably via gluconeogenesis) and is constantly available to my brain if required.

A conversation between a doctor and me

Even if you eat no carbs, your liver will generate glucose from any protein you eat by a process called gluconeogenesis. So no need to worry. I eat well under 20g of carbs a day and my brain still works pretty good.

    Mydiabetesmyway

Funnily enough, I asked at the surgery about this today. Currently I can see my inoculations but nothing else. On medication "no plans". On blood test results "we didn't sign up for that". But they do now send the prescriptions to your chemist electronically if you wish - no thanks after the...

    Diabetes and depression

Obviously, anyone that has a chronic illness will be depressed, just as anyone who suffers a loss. But life is like that... I don't know of any connection between clinical depression and diabetes. Clinical depression affects the hormones in your brain such as serotonin and noradrenalin and...

    Result

I started on LCHF (20g carbs) in July 2016. It makes it so much easier when your body responds in the predicted way and you get so much support from this website. I am also keenly interested in the science behind all this, so I intend to keep it up and spread the word!

    Result

I have just come back from the doctor's feeling very happy. He says I no longer have any diabetic symptoms, so I am off medication altogether and under diet control only! I am also off statins altogether as well, he said with my latest lipids there is no longer any reason I need to take them. I...

    Type 2 Insurance

Me too, but they still ask you to declare illnesses. Of course, they won't say anything until you claim and they find out you haven't declared an illness. My (included) bank travel insurance is still good, but it is heavily loaded because of diabetes, depression, cancer etc etc.

    Type 2 Insurance

You have to be really careful with insurance. For instance, if you get a burglar alarm and ask for reduced insurance, what happens if you forget to set it? Similarly, if you claim not to be diabetic, but on holiday inadvertently eat something that badly affects your blood sugar, what will be...

    Type 1 Cholesterol & Statins?

The figure of 6.2 for total cholesterol is not particularly high. As others have said it's the breakdown that matters. I believe that cholesterol is good for the body full stop. Most of the discussion centres on the lipoproteins that carry cholesterol in the blood stream. It's the low...

    Scary stuff

Someone was asking Dr Jason Fung if the content was factual. It does look scientific.

    Scary stuff

I found this link on the Diet Doctor site: http://nutritionfacts.org/2016/11/17/fat-is-the-cause-of-type-2-diabetes The problem is, this looks so scientific and believable. In fact, it reminds me of a lot of articles I have read on LCHF and the followers seem just as enthused. Now, I think that...

    Statin other side effects

I hear a lot about the side effects of statins - chiefly digestive and muscle issues. Of course there is also the main issue of interfering in a beneficial body system. However, I see increasing references to other side effects, like decreased platelets, decreased B12, raised blood sugar, which...
