Advice on how to be helpful

What a kind friend. My sons friend when he was young had diabetes T1 and her mother didn't worry when she was out in his company because he knew what to do in all situations. Perhaps you could learn more about it yourself to be able to help if she has a hypo etc. Probably the best thing you...

    Hello from Melbourne!

Hi and welcome. I'll tag @daisy1 to get you some info for newbies. Just ask any question you like. Although we are not doctors, we can only let you know what works for us individually. It may not suit you. I found the low carb diet works well for me, need to lose weight though, but it can be...

    Doctors Thursday a.m, diabetic pm

First thing DONT PANIC, welcome as well. I'll tag @daisy1 who will hopefully be along soon to give you info for the newly diagnosed. Have a look around the forum and site. Many people find a low carb diet helps them reduce their blood sugars and lose weight. Take care!

Type 1 How often do you need to change bg moniters

Any meters I have used you can get the control solution from the manufacturers and it's usually free. If you have registered your meter with the manufacturer they usually replace the meters for free if they break or if they update the meter. You can also usually get blood glucose diaries etc for...

    Hello :)

Hi and welcome. There are loads of helpful people on here so ask away. Just remember what works for one doesn't always work for all.

Type 1 and people not listening

Oh poor you. You will find helpful people here who can advise you and also inform you of your rights as a T1 diabetic in the workplace. Ignore these people but if you have a first aid person or nurse in your workplace you should at least inform them of your diabetes. Always carry your diabetes...

    What no blood?

Think it all depends on the nurse. I usually end up really bruised and sore too so you are not alone.

    Very anxious and worried

Have a look around this site and at the low carb program it can only help. Lots of people here say it reduces blood sugar and they lose weight. I agree with this. You might not even need the gastric band surgery

    Substitute for bread

I used to love fajitas but now I just have the filling! Onions, chicken, peppers, mushrooms. So much better for me and I don't even miss the tortillas

    My mindset/problems

Congrats on your engagement! Now presumably you want a long and happy life with your fiancé so you have to take control. Get her to help. It's all about partnership. Take care.

Was it the drugs or the diet or a combination of the two that resulted in my diagnosis of T2?

Genetics lots in my family have type 2 although my brother and I are the only ones on insulin.

    Type 1 Travelling abroad

I haven't had a problem with the Frio wallets from our security or on foreign soil. I do carry twice as much as I need though and a letter declaring my diabetes. If your pens have 3ml in them that is 300 units so you can work it out from there, just remember to factor in the priming doses for...

    Invokana

I tried invokana but it did not agree it's me. I am now on LCHFdiet and have lost more weight on it than I ever did with anything else. As for a meter, I believe you should always test, how else would you learn what foods affect you and how your bloods are reacting. When purchasing a meter if...

    Sweet tastes

I have found if I have anything sweet I crave more and have great difficulty avoiding more carbs. I try to not have any sweet drinks or even 90% chocolate as I could just eat the whole bar!

The first hypo is always the worst...

I don't get them often (fingers crossed) but had more going onto LCHF. They can be very scary. Fortunately I have always managed myself before t gets too bad but it's the indecision I can't stand. Do I go upstairs for my hypo wallet or downstairs for something to eat!
