    Gastric sleeve

I haven't personally had weight loss surgery. There was a time when I considered it, and was offered it on the NHS, but I did my research and realised that it's not for me. I have a couple of friends who have had the sleeve, and it's a long journey. Firstly, they had to prove that they were...

    Type 2 A Mystery

If my sugars run high for an extended amount of time I get itchy lower legs, and like you, I would scratch until they bleed. It is a common side effect of uncontrolled diabetes.

    Can I get drunk?

The things that you need to watch out for when drinking are: The obvious, blood sugar changes. As already pointed out, with spirits and sometimes red wine, it may drop your blood sugar. As you are metformin controlled, this may be less of an issue than if you were on other tablets or insulin...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I didn't have anything interesting or exciting in the house for lunch, except the dog's dinner... Minced beef. So after I'd cooked hers up plain, I mixed some mushrooms and cheese in a portion for myself - and it made a delicious lunch. Dinner was a chicken breast with cajun spices, and lots...

    Peak 4 hours after meal/insulin

I tried correcting last night, and it worked for me. I think I might digest slowly too, either that or it's the waning effect of the insulin.

    Peak 4 hours after meal/insulin

I've never been told to correct.. well, I've never been told anything about insulin at all. But, I corrected last night with 3 units after 5 hours, and bingo. It's been perfect ever since. I had my lunch at 12 today, and 5 hours later I'm hovering around 4.5... which is just about perfect, as...

Diet culture is it such a thing.

This thread has got weird. There seems to be a divide of people. Those who think that weight loss is as easy as trimming down the carbs, going to the gym, and watching the weight fall away. Then there's those of us who have done all of that but lost a mere few pounds if they are lucky. To be...

    Eyesight

I went from wearing glasses for short-sightedness all of the time, to just needing reading glasses for computer work (for slight long-sightedness). It took around 7 years for my eyesight to settle out, and in that time I've had a few different prescriptions as they slowly changed. My blood...

    Heavy arms

Definitely see your GP. I suffer from shoulder problems when my vitamin D levels drop to the floor. Frozen shoulders are always the first symptom for me. But, it can be a symptom of many things.

    Fatigue and high blood sugar

I can always tell when my blood sugars are above 12, because fatigue takes over my whole being. It feels as if everything is an effort, and even complete rest can't shake it off.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

That's exactly what I did, haha! It's not my bag. I think I'd rather just have the grated cheese melted on top of my chilli instead :-)

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Two fried eggs with mushrooms for lunch. Beef chilli with a nachos recipe off a keto site... wouldn't bother with the nachos again... I think I need to give up on these keto replacement recipes!

Diet culture is it such a thing.

Not one of us were given the diabetes diagnosis and jumped for joy. Being scared is part of the deal. The reason why I was with you on your original post is that I genuinely thought that you were being unjustly challenged by fat activists, and I think it's unfair for anyone to dismiss...

Diet culture is it such a thing.

As a long term fatty, I've never understood "fat activists". I understand body positivity, and on the whole, I think that it's a good thing to be happy in your own skin, but I never understood how "activism" transposes into telling someone else that they are wrong for expressing their own...

    Peak 4 hours after meal/insulin

Thanks for the reply, and sorry, I realise the title was not so clear... it tends to start rising between 3 and 4 hours after a meal, and then rises and stays there. So, no, by 6.30 it was still 8.8. I wasn't aware of the action of insulin - thank you - I shall do some research!

    Peak 4 hours after meal/insulin

I'm day 4 into my Libre trial, and the insights I'm getting are amazing - may consider self-funding if possible. I've noticed something, and it's probably more to do with my lack of insulin education than anything else. Just to briefly recap: I'm type 2 on Toujeo (44 u) and Novorapid (6 u...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I do find that large amounts of protein do spike my blood sugar. This was a small steak, so I wouldn't expect it to... but you never know. My money is still on the veggie fries as I was sort of pushing the boundaries by having them in the first place - I know better, I just choose sometimes...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Lunch was homemade beef burger with mushrooms and cheese. Dinner was a steak with caeser salad, and a very small side of veggie fries as it was a Saturday treat. I also made a dessert from melted 90% chocolate and extra thick cream. It was very nice, but my blood sugar spiked to 7 and has...

    Very strict diet or insulin?

I'm an insulin-using Type 2, and for me, it hasn't been the easy route. I wouldn't have ever chosen this over diet. As part of being type 2, I'm extremely resistant to insulin so if I choose to eat a "normal" diet, then I need lots of insulin to bring my glucose levels down. The massive...
