Type 1: Insulin resistance and exercise

I wouldn't worry too much about when you can fit your allotted 20mins of exercise in and instead think about how you can increase the amount of activity in your daily life. This can mean taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking instead of taking the bus, make a conscious effort to move...

    Type 1: Trouble losing weight.

You may find it difficult to lose weight if you are using a lot of insulin. By changing to a pump, the insulin is being infused in tiny amounts during the day and the total amount you use generally lowers when compared to injecting. Following a low carb diet (ideally around 50 - 100g per day)...

Prolonged physical activity - Anybody run a marathon?

There is little point in funding cgm unless you are using insulin. If you are able to manage your BGs with diet and exercise alone, there is nothing to stop you upping your distances significantly. All that will happen is that you will improve your insulin sensitivity even further. Well worth...

Help me to understand my diabetes, pregnancy and insulin, please?:)

Of course - needing insulin for increased insulin resistance makes perfect sense @azure :)

Increased Insulin Resistance with a low carb diet?

Thank you for all of your input - it's fascinating stuff! I think my confusion is rooted in the definition of exactly what insulin resistance is. If you would please bear with me.... Version 1. To my basic understanding (and I bow to your greater knowledge on this) it has to do with a 'faulty'...

    Thanks for that @tim2000s :)

Increased Insulin Resistance with a low carb diet?

@azure @Brunneria @tim2000s, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on an observation of increased insulin resistance with a very low carb/keto diet. I was discussing this topic recently with somebody with T1D (we tried a food fast together over a number of days) They noticed that coming...

    Type 1: Working with Diabetes

Certainly tricky without a routine, but adjusting BGs because you had prawns with avocado may be easier than trying to chase them (or worry about trying to match a dose) for crisps and a panini.;) It's just an option to leave out the complications of carbs 'til supper.

    Type 1: Working with Diabetes

Sounds like you're doing incredibly well and it would seem a shame to change what you do in order to 'accommodate' your diabetes. Have you tried going zero carb (during your working day)? That way, once you've nailed your basal (not sure if you're pumping or not) you can more or less 'forget'...

Help me to understand my diabetes, pregnancy and insulin, please?:)

Sounds like you need to make a trip back to see your doc and ask them to fill you in on exactly what their thinking is. You should be able to control Type 2 diabetes (and possibly even reverse it) by cutting out carbs and getting a bit more active. Have a read through the various threads on the...

    Bulimia

There's loads of advice on the forum for low carb foods - take a look around, or I'm sure someone will post soon with more advice. As a quick fix - Try Avocado, a big slab of Cheese, a bag of nuts, or a few slices of ham.

    Bulimia

Oh boy, that must take a lot of mental strength to cope with. The only thing I could suggest is to fill the cupboards with low carb foods - all sorts, so there's always something enough to tempt you with. If you 'fall off the wagon' and binge, then at least you won't compound the effect and...

DHEA and cortisol - what's your experience?

I have come onto the forum to ask for your experiences (if any) of using DHEA and any impact it may (or may not) have on your diabetes management. DHEA is a natural steroid and precursor hormone produced by the adrenals. It is occasionally taken in the form of a supplement and claims have been...

Why Do Diabetics Fail To Adhere To Dietary Regimes?

Wow! I've only just caught up with this thread - looks like the forum did an excellent job of making their feelings known. ;) It frustrates me how those working within a healthcare/education don't appear to recognise how utterly prejorative and patronising their language can be. 'Adherence to'...

Thank you for the links @azure :)

Is a Low Carb Diet Sustainable to Manage Type 1 Diabetes

Thank you @Brunneria, I would be interested too @azure - I've only heard good experiences. It would be useful to try to understand what is happening for those it doesn't work for.

    Diet controlled dropping during exercise

That is a low reading, but then if you are in ketosis blood glucose levels can be lower than what you might normally expect. The fact that you are diet and exercise controlled, there isn't any obvious prescription related cause, so I would mention it to your doctor just in case. @Brunneria is...

    Cannot go on.

You're obviously a very thoughtful and kind hearted individual - encouraging us to share and learn from others, when you are at a desperately low point yourself. The only support I can offer would be to suggest you take a look at the writings of Eckhart Tolle (if you haven't already). He was...

    fasting and fainting

I'm on a third day of fasting at the moment - I figured that if I'm recommending that people to consider doing it, I should know what it feels like! Likewise, on morning of day three, both hubby and I (he's doing it too) felt a bit light headed - kind of how you feel when you are woozy with a...
