Experienced diabetic (Type1) here to answer questions or give advice!

Welcome to the forum, its a great community here and I'm sure you will learn a lot from people here no matter how experienced you are as well as helping others. Out of interest how do you find managing it on a day to day basis and what's your current hba1c at?

Type 1 High BSL before meal, what's the postprandial aim?

The thing is, the post prandial glucose levels recommended I bet are not met by the majority of type 1 diabetics, especially if its a high car or relatively high GI meal. I personally pre-bolus 30-40 minutes before such a lunch and if my glucose levels are below the recommended 9 mmol/L after 2...

How do high sugar spikes make you feel?

As others have said, feeling tired. But my skin also seems to get greasy when levels increase.

New iLet Bionic Pancreas System Begins Clinical Trial Testing

This was meant to have been trialled in 2018 and released in 2019, so still a bit behind. Think the first plans were for Damiano to release it for when his son went to college, I think he is post university level now, so behind that anyway. If it does work it will be a huge step forward and...

Changing to FIASP, where to go?

Also have an appointment on the 16th November with diabetes nurse. So will see what they say about Fiasp and will also ask about CGM. Either way I'm probably going to self-fund CGM if they don't as I think the stress of tetsing and continuously monitoring using a machine outweighs the cost.

Changing to FIASP, where to go?

I don't have an email contact, I've spoken to a secretary who has asked them to call me back. See what they say. Thanks for your help @helensaramay @Kolin

Changing to FIASP, where to go?

Hi All, Been getting fed up with post meal spikes even after pre-blousing for 30-40 minutes before a meal (rising upto 14/15 mmol/L for 2-3 hours after eating and then dropping over the next 2) I want to try FIASP, but can this be changed by seeing a GP or does it have to be a diabetic...

    Medtronic 670G

Thanks for the info, how have you found your injection sites? As I have some lipohypertrophy mainly around my abdomen area from years of injecting out of convenience, is this better with pumps, using a canula for example?

    Levels after food

Ive been monitoring my levels with novorapid, even with prebolusing I can see large spikes if I have a sandwich. What I have noticed is that it does reach its peak ~ 2hours after injecting, but my levels are still around 10/11 at this point, by 3 hours they drop to around 8/9 but the last 2...

    Medtronic 670G

I was looking into insulin pumps and the Medtronic 670G (I am currently injecting and have been for 17 years), however I was a bit confused. It says that it can maintain basal rates and dose for bolus. However it only has one reservoir for insulin, how does this work? does it use bolus in a...

How Many Hypo's Is Too Many?

I was in a similar situation a couple of months ago, got back in to the fitness. My carb ratio at the time was around 1.5 units per 10 grams of carbs, through the intense exercise I lost around 20 pounds in 8 weeks and through that time had many hypos whilst adjusting insulin levels. Now my carb...

    Correction Dose Question

i've found Novorapid to reach its peak after 2 hours by which time ~50% of the does is used, the rest 50% usually lowers my levels for the next 2-3 hours.

Family of nine-year-old campaigns against postcode lottery for FreeStyle Libre access

Its all a con, as with most things the harder you try to control the condition and if you do well, you get penalized. If you don't care as much, then you get rewarded. If they don't want to give it to everyone on the NHS, then they could at least subsidize the cost. Surely its the way forward...

    Portion sizes do you weigh

I don't weigh, never have done but have a rough idea of the portion sizes I eat vs the insulin required.

    New on here

Hi @Diakat @RAPS_od , thanks for the welcome. It definitely is good to see how others are getting on and learn from others experience and knowledge. Great to see how so many people have not let diabetes affect their lives, which is always good to see.

Insulin shortages in the UK after Brexit

No, they will have to pay whatever the rate is, should it go ahead. They can't get away with rationing people on insulin, imagine the effects of that!

    High blood sugar with Cold

Having high blood sugars whilst ill is very common, the body dumps a load of glucose and hormones to deal with the illness which in turn increases glucose levels. Just monitor them regularly and adjust as necessary.

    Weight Loss Help!

I'm a type 1 diabetic, have been for 17 years now. Like you I decided I wanted to get into better shape and improve my diabetes further, I was probably what they call skinny fat (I looked thin in clothes but had belly fat which was clear without). I was probably around 20-22% body fat around 7...
