How many spikes do you have a day?

As above, if you eat carbs you will spike. We have to understand that the insulin profile doesn't generally change, but how the cars are absorbed does. We can pre-bolus to minimize spikes but they are inevitable, what you want to try and do is minimize them, I try and keep all spikes under 10...

    Advice on splitting levemir

I believe Dr Bernstein recommends splitting dose into two, one before bed ~9/10pm, then the next dose 6 hours later to counteract DP. Obviously this means setting an alarm and getting up, but that depends on how much you want to control the phenomena.

    Wich one?

Sugar is just a simple carbohydrate. As its a simpler molecule its broken down and absorbed in the body quicker than a complex carb, which can take longer. Hence carb count is always higher, because it includes the 'of which sugars'. In general if something has high 'of which sugars' then it...

Also use KT tape, does the trick for gym etc, but as above, will probably need replacing more often. Its relatively cheap to buy a roll on amazon and cut to size.

    Getting rid of "lipos"

I understand that. Dr Bernstein is essentially an advocate of low card high protein, and that's due to the fact that eating high carbs is the main reason for high BS levels and then using insulin to counteract it, which in itself does not have a predictable operation means that you will never...

    Getting rid of "lipos"

If it has no relevance, why do people following his programme have near enough normalized glucose levels without the rollercoaster effect (<5% hba1c) ? To say it has no relevance whatsoever is very disingenuous. All the basic principles his plan is based upon is completely relevant today.

    Struggling

You can obviously ask on here, I just find its easier to talk to someone than wait for answers on a forum. Maybe see if there are any JDRF events near your area that you could attend etc. I've had diabetes since I was 8, almost 20 years ago, been through all the stages, not caring, bad control...

    Struggling

I'd suggest trying to meet up with other diabetics in your area, nobody will truly understand you without being diabetic. Learn how they are managing there condition etc. One thing that really helped me is bouncing ideas off one of my closest friends who is also diabetic. When I mention...

    Getting rid of "lipos"

Not saying he does, but he has many years of experience dealing with diabetics and his own life experience, he said it a couple of months ago in his Q&A session. But I guess that depends on what you call very well controlled. Dr Bernstein is an advocate of normalized glucose levels at 83 mg/dL...

    Getting rid of "lipos"

Dr Bernstein does recommend against using pumps for this very reason. He states he has never seen a well controlled diabetic on a pump due to lipohypertrophy buildup, as the canulla and insulin are in a certain location for several days at a time. Unfortunately it does affect insulin absorption...

    Getting rid of "lipos"

Make sure you change your needles every time and rotate at least an inch away from the previous injection site. I have lypohypertrohpy from years of bad practices (not rotating, reusing needles), I've lost a lot of weight and not used the area for over a year, and its still prominent. Most of my...

    Type 1 Teenager type 1

He would have to meet the NCIE criteria and dependent upon the CCG, the best is to ask your DSN or consultant. Generally for libre you have to be testing more than 8+ times a day or having frequent hypos etc. I believe for a pump he has to attend a DAFNE course as a minimum and show reasonable...

    Freestyle Libre

I actually had an appointment with the DSN to switch from novorapid to FIASP. He wanted to see what my glucose levels were like, because I was testing a lot, like 20x a day to try and capture what was happening post meals with novo. When he saw the meter he said you seem to be testing a lot...

Type 2 diagnosed with diabetes last year.

Welcome to the forum. I assume you are type 2. Everyone is different, and how long the current medication works effectively is partially down to how you manage diabetes. If you take it on board , go low carb, lose weight to improve insulin sensitivity, exercise regularly and eat to the meter to...

NICE recommends dapagliflozin as type 1 diabetes treatment

TBF, Dr Bernstein advocates low carb (<30g per day) and that's only from veg to get nutrients, and is aimed at type 1's. Dr Bernstein also has concerns over recommending these for type 1's as long term effect on overworking the kidney's is not clear. Obviously insulin is still used though.
