DAFNE - is it worth it!?

Yes, it's definitely worth attending. The only downside was them not recognising the benefits of the lchf lifestyle, and saying you can eat anything and match it with insulin. However, in every other respect, the course was excellent, and I learned lots I wouldn't otherwise have known. As the...

GUYS! hahahaha... I know it's bit mean, but what would you guys do? Nothing related but I need help

Some good advice here, particularly @noblehead and @nosher8355 @teeekilicious18 Rather than penalise those around you who are struggling with their own conditions, why not give words of encouragement and point out the highs of life rather than the lows. We all have good and bad times in life...

How to get rid of kidney stones when you have diabetestype2

Lots and lots of water to drink to flush them out. I've had them twice, and can confirm they are unbelievably excruciatingly painful (I likened it to a burst appendix but without the temperature). @Tipetoo the pain is far worse than manflu - imagine that!

    Muscle Pain from statins?

Crucifyingly bad pain for me on two different types of statins. Destroyed my leg muscles to the point where after 3 months was struggling to walk/drive. Came off them against gp's advice, and am now back to pre-statin health; it has taken over 6 months to build my muscles back up though. It...

    Feeling ill

I would think this is normal adjustment as your body is adjusting to using fat for energy rather than carbs. I recall I went through something similar; but it only lasts a few days. Have you checked for ketones? I keep my carb intake at around 50g per day, as my body is happy with this. Now my...

Type 1: Is It Ok To Eat Chinese

Yes, you can eat them, make a note of what you have and how it affects your bloods; if you build up a reference chart, you'll know what you need to take to match it. I love a Chinese for a treat maybe once a month, but whereas I'd normally have around 50g carbs in a day, that one meal will...

Type 1: Low carb high fat diet

I have been lchf for 15 months; it has given me my life back. I'm now a weight I haven't been since my teens (am approaching 50 !), and have loads of energy, and far fewer D complications. Cholesterol initially spiked, now is nicely in the normal range, and hba1c is steady at 45, and am hoping...

    Bed time hungries?

Try a small glass of whole milk and one or two oatcakes. I prefer the cheese flavoured ones at just 3.3g carbs each [emoji1303]

    Dry Skin

Since being diagnosed I have been plagued with dry itchy skin. The docs prescribed both E45 and Doublebase creams, but these just seemed to 'melt' the skin and made matters worse. Finally I sought the advice of our village pharmacist and she suggested Diprobase Ointment (not the cream); wow! A...

    Accu Check Mobile

If you are T1 why don't you get them free on prescription from your GP?

High blood sugar level after football

If you are testing before your match and all is normal, you should be looking to take on some carbs before exercise otherwise if you run low during exercise your liver may be 'sugar-dumping' glucose into the blood, which later on when the body is calmer it will take the sugar back and may cause...

    in agony with painful muscles?

My thoughts of statins too, but I didn't get the burning-up feeling; just agony in my muscles as they were destroyed. Coming off statins altogether was the best thing [emoji6]

Type 1 for 7 days. Help!

Hi Emma The beginning is always the hardest stage; you're feeling rotten as your bs is so high, then loads of advice is thrown at you from all directions (some conflicting), and your head just spins! As others have said already, test test test is the key, and you will quickly learn what spikes...

    High cholesterol on a lchf

When I first went lchf my cholesterol shot up to 7.9 . I endured the agony of statins for 3 months before weaning off as the muscle loss was too painful to endure any longer. Using purely cholesterol lowering yoghurt drinks, it was down to 6.4 at the next test 8 weeks later, and is expected to...

    Type 1 diabetes and thyroid

@lma89 I have to take thyroxine due to past illness, and can vouch that adjustments to the dosage do take time to work through. Since being diagnosed T1.5 LADA Diabetic I have had to change from the T3 tablets I've been taking since my teens, to T4 tablets. It took a few months to get the...

    Newly Diagnosed TP1

@Cha-Lloes How many carbs are you having per meal? Have you tried LCHF yet? Lots of carbs means matching with insulin. Reducing the carbs drastically worked wonders for me, and my BGs are steady now in the 5-6 range. (I was off the meter at diagnosis, and had an Hba1c of 101)

Its my birthday on monday and were going out for a meal, help!

@JayClubRocker I would have gone to one of the carvery pub chains and had a meal there; providing you stick to the low carb foods and have plenty of green veg, you can really enjoy a meal out. Rather than alcohol, try tap water with ice & lemon; wonderfully refreshing, and no spike! Hope you...

    High cost of healthy diet

@itsme123 I can also vouch for Aldi fresh foods - great quality and last much longer than some of the larger supermarkets. When I went lchf I was worried about affording it, but in actual fact since switching my supermarket shop, I genuinely save about 40% on what I used to spend, so it's been...

Feel like my friends are getting bored with my diabetes

Lots of my friends know I'm diabetic, but you find few really want to talk about it, as they feel they can't really contribute to doing much about it. They'll ask you if you're ok, but really want to hear "fine, thanks", then move onto next topic. There are a select few who genuinely want to...
